Dragged Up fly their freak flag on ferocious new single ‘Rapunzel’

Glasgow’s Dragged Up return at full throttle with ‘Rapunzel’, the lead half of a new double single offering another tantalising glimpse of forthcoming third album Trzy.

Recorded largely live at Glasgow’s 16 Ohm Studio with engineer Tommy Duffin, ‘Rapunzel’ tears through three minutes of unruly garage-punk, marrying primitive guitar work with feverish saxophone and a restless structure that continually threatens to fly apart. Twin solos, unexpected key changes and a Kinks-inspired breakdown only add to the glorious disorder.

Songwriter Simon Shaw conceived the track as a salute to outsiders and countercultural spirits, drawing inspiration from vintage garage punk alongside X-Ray Spex, John Coltrane, James White and the Contortions and Sham 69. Guest contributions from Mel Whittle and saxophonist Sofia Ween push its wonderfully abrasive character even further.
