El Chavito fire back at gatekeeping punk culture on ‘Time of Your Life’

Los Angeles trio El Chavito channel frustration, sarcasm and full-throttle catharsis into explosive new single ‘Time of Your Life’, a blistering punk track aimed directly at reactionary voices trying to rewrite what punk was always meant to stand for.

Blurring hardcore intensity, punk aggression and emo vulnerability, the band deliver the song with chaotic urgency, turning a real-life argument with a self-described “punk fan” into a furious celebration of inclusivity and self-expression. According to the band, the track was sparked by someone complaining that punk had become “too woke”, despite apparently missing the political and social messages embedded in the very bands they claimed to love.

Here, El Chavito double down on the idea of punk as a space for outsiders, individuality and resistance. ‘Time of Your Life’ champions the environment of a great punk show: loud, messy, welcoming and unapologetically open to different identities, experiences and voices.

Named after a neighbourhood bar demolished by developers, El Chavito have built their identity around resistance to erasure, whether cultural, personal or communal. Their songs tackle mental health, gender expression, toxic relationships and intolerance with zero interest in fitting neatly into genre expectations.
