Eric Schenkman celebrates the legacy of the electric guitar on new single ‘Recipe’
Spin Doctors founding member Eric Schenkman has released his latest solo single ‘Recipe’, a groove-heavy rock track that reflects on the history, influence and enduring appeal of the electric guitar.
But rather than focusing solely on technique, the song examines the generations of musicians who have shaped the instrument’s identity, acknowledging the influence of pioneers such as Charlie Christian, Albert King and Jimi Hendrix while considering how each guitarist contributes something uniquely their own.
Written following a visit to Little Rock, Arkansas, where Schenkman spent time with musician Cody Dickinson, ‘Recipe’ grew from conversations about musical heritage and artistic lineage. Those ideas extend into the recording itself, which favours an organic, live feel over studio perfection by dispensing with a click track and allowing the performances to unfold naturally.
Backed by drummer Al Cross and bassist Stan Miczek, the single highlights the chemistry of musicians playing together in real time, placing groove and spontaneity at its centre. ‘Recipe’ continues his solo journey while celebrating the creative freedom that has defined the electric guitar for generations.
