15. Two Steps, Twice (Antidotes (Standard DMD), 2008)

“What I like most about them is how quickly they mastered the art of building up tension for a sledgehammer release. Best example being “Two Steps, Twice”. Definitely ones to watch.”

14. Late Night (Holy Fire, 2013)

“Every song on here has something that makes me like it, but a lack of experimental and clear direction makes Holy Fire seem somewhat minor. I’m not sure what Foals are trying to do, and I’m willing to bet that they don’t either; they are just following their instincts and making an album that is exactly what they felt like making, even if there is hardly any indicator of what that means.”

13. After Glow (Total Life Forever, 2010)

“This album can go in either two ways, you either love it or hate it, i love it, i highly enjoy it and After Glow resonates with me on an ethereal level, This band continues to improve on what i enjoy in indie rock and i hope they keep this up in future releases.”

12. Red Socks Pugie (Antidotes (Standard DMD), 2008)

“Dance inducing post punk. Its simple, hella catchy, but still has some unconventional hooks. Im not the biggest fan of their style, reminds me of Minus the Bear. Mellow post hardcore+indie rock, which seems at times genres in conflict with each other. But they almost pull it off, and it is certainly an enjoyable album.”

11. Cassius (Antidotes (Standard DMD), 2008)

“On the one hand one of the album’s strengths is its consistency with barely a weak track. On the other hand, paradoxically for such a seemingly consistent album, there are a number of true standouts. The obvious one is the simply excellent ‘Cassius’ which is just a brilliant mix of indie pop and energetic, jerky math rock rhythms. ‘The French Open’ is not quite as exceptional, but works as a brilliant appetiser to ‘Cassius’ in particular and serves as a good introduction to the band’s sound in general.”

10. Black Gold (Total Life Forever, 2010)

“This is just so purely enjoyable and fun to listen to in a way that so much music i’ve listened to lately just…isn’t. for filler-less indie rock that’ll push some emotional buttons, try this.”

9. Providence (Holy Fire, 2013)

“Love me some Foals. They make fun, dancy indie rock that is nothing but quality. This album is no exception, it’s great from top to bottom. Total Life Forever is still my favorite Foals album but this is a close second for sure.”

8. Blue Blood (Total Life Forever, 2010)

” The opening ‘Blue Blood’ is actually a nice mix of everything that Foals were at this point – catchy melody, nice mixture of “soft angular”, lilting and smooth, guitars, all built on a steady, but not manic, math rock rhythm.”

7. What Went Down (What Went Down, 2015)

“Would be great if it were instrumental, and not five minutes long, because Philippakis sings without doing anything at all and because the song could have ended just before the coda.”

6. Mountain at My Gates (What Went Down, 2015)

“Lead single “Mountain at My Gates” is written for mass consumption but is at the same time satisfying which is a trend seen across the album. Whether or not this is Foals best work is debatable, but I do think it is the bands most consistent and also their most ambitious record to date.”

5. Miami (Total Life Forever, 2010)

“‘Miami’ is an interesting attempt at a slow math rock track, but a little bit too bland to enjoy overall. Foals really find their own feet with this album, and in the process, end up displaying a wide variety of emotions and ideas whilst keeping true to their dance punk style rhythms.”

4. My Number (Holy Fire, 2013)

“‘My Number’ is a more than worthy new single to bounce around to. With its jittery guitar melody and impeccably precise groove, it’s practically the zenith of the poppier side to Foals’ songwriting, and a strong contender for catchiest song they’ve ever produced.”

3. Olympic Airways (Antidotes (Standard DMD), 2008)

“‘Olympic Airways’ also bring a measure of decorum by emphasising the echoey indie rock sound and toning down the energetic dance punk/math rock edge.”

2. Inhaler (Holy Fire, 2013)

“‘Inhaler’ kicks off with another cool shuffling math rock rhythm and then features an interesting and  unexpected contrast between the dreamy verses and the alternative rock/hard rock sounding refrain.”

1. Spanish Sahara (Total Life Forever, 2010)

“It has a pretty chilled intro, then builds up into the main song. The singing is simple but honest, and instrumentally it is pretty good with some enjoyable electronic stuff going on. Overall pretty chilled and enjoyable indie rock song, a bit generic though.”
