Friends With Boats launch punk rock warning flare with ‘Surprise, Surprise’
Transatlantic punks Friends With Boats return with ‘Surprise, Surprise’, a furious new single that tears into the AI apocalypse with sneering defiance and cross-continental bite. Recorded across Germany, Nicaragua, and Canada, and mixed by Tim Creviston (Comeback Kid, Spiritbox), the track is a bulletproof blend of raw energy and razor-sharp commentary, aimed straight at the encroaching tech dystopia.
Born from the band’s signature blend of ‘90s punk spirit and no-frills hardcore, ‘Surprise, Surprise’ lashes out at the unchecked rise of artificial intelligence, mass surveillance, and corporate power; from hate-fuelled algorithms to autonomous death machines. It’s as much a protest song as it is a punk anthem, landing with both fists clenched.
To match the chaos, the band partnered with acclaimed Mexican animator Benjamin Estrada (STRADAST ANIMATION) to create a nightmarish, AI-generated video that blurs future and present. In a world where satire can’t keep up with reality, Friends With Boats raise a pixelated middle finger to the tech overlords and remind us that punk isn’t dead, it just moved across borders, plugged in, and got louder.
