7. The Chase (1992)

“A defining album in country music, in music in general and in my own life. Garth’s career was skyrocketing and this album with “We Shall Be Free” and “That Summer” only propelled it even further. Everyone should have it in their collection and on their playlist. “Night Riders Lament” is a total gem off of this album. Highly recommend.”

6. Fresh Horses (1995)

“Loaded with the populist and humanist touches that differentiate his brand of modern country from that of the Nashville boy-crooners riding his coat-tails, FRESH HORSES continues Garth Brooks’ streak of exciting, fresh-faced albums. It’s not just that the Oklahoma-born singer has created a platform that offers something for every country music connoisseur–the instrumentation and song structures nod toward the traditional, the booming sound hints at southern fried and arena-rock, the lyrical stance is as progressive as Music City gets–but the fact that Brooks clearly reaches out to each of these constituencies, and is quite natural doing it.”

5. Man Against Machine (2014)

“I thought this album was refreshing in today’s hip hop, crossover music ‘country’ radio play. The songs are reminiscent of his past work, with each having a story to tell – not just drinking songs or country girls in tight clothes songs. And, by the way – they are they have the country vibe that is missing in most of today’s music. I loved the album and highly recommend it”

4. Garth Brooks (1989)

“Garth Brooks” is probably the most traditional country album Garth Brooks ever released. The songs feature the steel-slide guitar and the rich sounds of the fiddle. Garth’s first single from the album, “Much Too Young To Feel This Damn Old”, is straight out country, a song about a lost lover, and life on the road as a rodeo bronc rider. Other songs along the same lines include “Not Counting You”, “Everytime That It Rains”, and “I Know One”. Each deals with heartache and heartbreak, and reflect on the style of country music to which most people were familiar.”

3. Double Live (1998)

“Hearing the songs sung live, including the concert versions of Friends In Low Places and The Thunder Rolls, is incredible. Hearing The Dance sung live by Garth and continued by the audience is a magical experience, especially if you’ve been a part of it first hand and understand how magical that is live. The otherwise unreleased “Your Song” where Garth sang to his mother on stage, about how he owes it all to her….it’s just moving.”

2. Ropin’ The Wind (1991)

“The album redefined Garth’s style and firmly established the rock/country hybrid style that made Garth popular in multiple music markets. Where his first two CD’s were more traditional in their sound, this CD really crossed over into rock, while at the same time maintaining the rich sounds of country music. Even Garth, who had recorded the work of other country artists in the past, turned to friend Billy Joel (“The Piano Man”) to help pen “Shameless”, arguably one of the strongest songs on the album.”

1. No Fences (1990)

“One of the few country albums I know of that is a good listen top to bottom. Garth was the biggest country act ever back in the day and this was his best work. I can’t help but like this record. Great songwriting, good musicianship, and great vocals”
