Girls Generation Albums Ranked

Girls’ Generation (Korean: 소녀시대; RR: Sonyeo Sidae), also known as SNSD, is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment. The group is composed of eight members: Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun. Originally a nine-piece ensemble, Jessica departed from the group in September 2014. Among the prominent South Korean figures and most popular K-pop groups worldwide, Girls’ Generation has earned numerous accolades and the honorific nickname “The Nation’s Girl Group” in their home country. The group’s signature musical styles are characterized as electropop and bubblegum pop, though their sound has varied widely, incorporating various genres including hip hop, R&B, and EDM. In 2017, Billboard honoured Girls’ Generation as the “Top K-pop Girl Group of the Past Decade”. They are the first Asian girl group to achieve five music videos with over 100 million views on YouTube with “Gee”, “I Got a Boy”, “The Boys”, “Mr. Taxi”, and “Oh!”. In Japan, they became the first non-Japanese girl group to have three number-one albums on the Oricon Albums Chart, and their three Japanese concert tours attracted a record-breaking 550,000 spectators. Here are all of Girls Generation albums ranked.

10. Tell Me Your Wish (Genie)

“The title song onws ‘Gee’ in all possible ways and ‘One Year Later’ is their most beautiful ballad. I’m definitely not one of those people who complain that the release was rushed and that the material from this mini album is overall weak because I like all the songs, but what ‘Genie’ is lacking is another hit song like ‘Way to Go’ that they could promote. ‘Etude’ doesn’t do the job.”

9. Mr. Mr.

SNSD Mr.Mr. Album, Hobbies & Toys, Memorabilia & Collectibles, K-Wave on Carousell

“On my first listen it felt like nothing stuck at all except for the title track. After a few more tries however, I’ve come to like it a bit more. The title track is unsurprisingly much safer than IGAB (disregarding the double key change at the end) which really divided the k-pop sea.”

8. Girls’ Generation

“However distasteful a dubbed ‘bland’ release like this one would seem to many, I just find the youthful innocence that plagues the instrumentation and lyricism on here so charming and moving. Perhaps it’s my inner self longing to go back to a time where I didn’t have much to worry about, or wishing I’d been involved in this particular release around 2007 so that I’d now be drowning myself in tears of nostalgia. But that’s sadly not the case.”

7. Lion Heart

Lion Heart (album) - Wikipedia

“Oh Boy! Is this a good album. The unbelieveable ‘Lion Heart’ which has won 12 awards already, like a song which has always existed somewhere, the funky smokin’ hot ‘You Think’, ‘Party’, ‘Check’ – all these have incredible videos! (perhaps they should release a video/DVD album!) ‘Show Girls’ ‘Talk Talk’ (new ‘Boomerang’) [which were both featured in their previous killer concerts!] & various styles, even heavy R’n’B hip-hop. & the rest which are completely excellent.”

6. I Got A Boy

Girls' Generation – I Got A Boy Lyric (Romanization, Eng Translation, with Individual Part) | Bluelaberry

“It give us everything, vocals, choreography, rap, visuals. The I Got a Boy song is an standard groups want to reach still, you see lots of groups releasing songs of multiple styles in one, after they did, but IGAB still has that “something” you won’t see in any other group. One of their biggest hits.”

5. Run Devil Run

“I first heard of GG when a friend posted “Run, Devil Run” on his FB account. Since they are all very cute I took an interest. Then I found myself humming the song. After buying the CD most of the songs have catchy melodies.I don’t understand what they are singing about, but as a full package, good singing, good songs, I must say I like this CD a lot as I have recently bought the others.”

4. The Boys

SNSD The Boys Album, Sports Equipment, Exercise & Fitness, Cardio & Fitness Machines on Carousell

“Exactly how this nine-girl gaggle followed up their spectacular Japanese debut (listed above) with this album is beyond me; K-pop artists like to shift sounds, but usually they do so as a fun stylistic diversion, or to fit into a more mature sound as they grow older. The Boys is a total devolution from their previous effort not only thematically, but sonically, lyrically, and cohesively.”

3. Girls & Peace

Girls & Peace - Wikipedia

“Since SNSD mined almost all of their excellent Korean hits for their spectacular self-titled Japanese debut album, Girls & Peace is a noticably thin followup in the Japanese market. Not that the charts show it – this album has a pair of Oricon toppers and a slew of other hit singles, but aside from the sprightly “Oh!” – which, tellingly, is a remake of their celebrated Korean single – everything here is a step down from the songs on Girls’ Generation.”

2. Love & Peace

“GG/SNSD’s ‘sgt. pepper’? Could be. This one has all songs which you know were performed live in their incredible live shows & the pacing is perfect. The unbelievable Galaxy Supernova,Lips,Do The Catwalk, the fabulous Karma Butterfly etcetera etcetera! This is one of the most perfect albums ever made. A must get. (now if we only could get a book with all of the lyrics in English!”

1. Girls’ Generation (2011)

Girls' Generation (2011 album) - Wikipedia

“It’s been exactly 10 years since SNSD released their japanese debut album “Girls’ Generation”, and yet no k-pop group trying to break into the japanese market has even come close to topping this masterpiece. The songs on it truly stand the test of time with bangers like Mr. Taxi, The Great Escape, Let It Rain, You-aholic and well… every song on the album.”
