Loona Songs Ranked

Loona (commonly stylized as LOONA or LOOΠΔ; Korean: 이달의 소녀; RR: Idarui Sonyeo; Japanese: 今月の少女, romanized: Kongetsu no Shōjolit. ‘Girl of the Month’) is a South Korean girl group formed by Blockberry Creative. The group was introduced to the public through a pre-debut project that began in October 2016, where each of the 12 members were revealed in a periodic fashion by releasing a promotional single over the following 18 months. They debuted as a full ensemble with the extended play, [+ +] (2018), supported by the lead single “Favorite” and the title track “Hi High”. Loona’s English name is derived from the Hangul letters ㅇㄷㅇㅅㄴ, each an initial consonant in the syllabic blocks that make 이달의 소녀 (Idarui Sonyeo). When rearranged to ㄴㅇㅇㄷㅅ, it resembles LOONA in the Latin alphabet. Here are all of Loona’s songs ranked.

10. One & Only (One & Only, 2018)

“One and Only” is literally that one song with the line “take me to your best friend’s house” from the early 2010s (and I’ll use this as an opportunity to plug my list which is just a bunch of cursed comparisons like this one).”

9. Eclipse (Eclipse, 2017)

“Eclipse” is generic but well-executed (the modulation at the end is quite nice, for example), although it suffers from some of the weird mixing that plagues these early singles.”

8. FavOrite ([+ +], 2018)

“FavOriTe” was released as a lead single, leading to the debut album of LOOΠΔ. After months of an intriguing, unique and compelling pre-debut project, they gave us here a little taste of what they can do together as a whole group.”

7. Sweet Crazy Love (Mix & Match, 2017)

“Still, this is a really good release, and the Max & Match version with the extra tunes should be acknowledged as well. In fact, “Sweet Crazy Love”, a catchy dance-pop tune (though not quite up there with “Girl Front”), replacing “Starlight” would have sent the Mix & Match up a half star.”

6. Girl Front (Mix & Match, 2017)

“Girl Front is just an absolute banger, and Loonatic is an incredibly interesting track to me. Instead of having pristine production, it seems to be intentionally dirty in places, with the vocals being slightly more distant than is usually expected in K-Pop. It’s a brilliant and interesting track.”

5. Heart Attack (Heart Attack, 2017)

“If this video didn’t make you single handedly look up Loona’s entire discography and make you realize that all of it is just so gay, whether indirect or direct, and you had absolutely no choice but to stan, then you MIGHT have watched this video incorrectly.”

4. Egoist (Olivia Hye, 2018)

“The production and atmosphere for her album was executed very beautifully and showcased her uniqueness very well. Both tracks create a passionate and intense emotion that evokes a very bittersweet yet ambitious feeling. It’s versatile and I love and very much appreciate the utilization of the concept, mood, vocals, rap, and overall sound.”

3. Love Cherry Motion (Choerry, 2017)

“In my opinion, Choerry really deserves better. She is probably the most well rounded member in Loona with Heejin and Yves. She’s a really good dancer, rapper and vocalist. She is also really versatile, she can do any concept: sexy, cute, baddass (girl crush), teen crush, Butterfly concept (idk how to call that concept, maybe ethereal?). Her voice and dance style are also really versatile too. She deserves more attention.”

2. new (Yves, 2017)

“Yves has an angelic voice, he shows it very well in new I think the song has a super exquisite and emotional chorus and prechorus, the theme is about loving yourself because these are new days for you, where you want changes for the better, where you want to renew your life and Yves really makes it feel like that by performing the song.”

1. Hi High ([+ +], 2018)

“Hi High”, the main single, delves deeply into the mainstream k-pop vein, going full saccharine and thus delivering one of their best singles by far. The chorus is pure pop perfection, and the high-energy production that fuels the song doesn’t leave us a single moment to breathe.”
