The inspiration arrived on Formby High Street, where an ill-fated attempt to reach a pedestrian crossing ended with a piece of metal fence catching the songwriter’s ripped jeans. The resulting fall not only happened in full public view but tore the jeans apart in almost cartoonish fashion.
