Holding Poison go bigger than ever on ‘Knew I Couldn’t Have You’

London rockers Holding Poison channel missed connections and lingering memories into their biggest anthem yet on new single ‘Knew I Couldn’t Have You’.

Drawing heavily from the melodic alt-rock of the 90s and 00s, the five-piece balance intimate verses against towering guitars, thunderous drums and a huge chorus. Male and female vocals add another dimension, helping turn what could have been a melancholy breakup song into something surprisingly uplifting.

Lyrically, frontman Mathew Blackwell looks back on a relationship where connection and timing never quite aligned. Rather than dwelling on what might have been, the song considers how someone once hugely important can gradually become a distant memory, and how hindsight can make leaving the past alone feel like the right decision.
