Luna Shadows embraces midwest emo influences on ‘gutspill’
LA artist Luna Shadows brings a more playful edge to her atmospheric alternative-pop on new single ‘gutspill’, combining Midwest emo-inspired guitars with layered vocals and electronic production.
Co-written and co-produced alongside Chris Freeman of Hot Mulligan, the track draws from the immediacy of early-2000s pop-punk and alternative music while retaining the detailed production that has characterised Shadows’ previous releases.
Lyrically, ‘gutspill’ deals with emotions becoming increasingly difficult to contain. Shadows describes it as being about the point when feelings threaten to “fall out like confetti”, whether prompted by an unspoken crush or another overwhelming experience. Rather than continuing to suppress them, the song considers the freedom that comes with simply expressing them.
With ‘gutspill’, she brings her longstanding connection to alternative music closer to the surface, introducing a brighter and more guitar-driven dimension to her sound.
