HUVET tear into self-loathing on ferocious new single ‘Självförakt’

Swedish noise-rock outfit HUVET continue their march towards a forthcoming debut album with ‘Självförakt’ (‘Self-Loathing’), a bruising new single built around distortion, tension and unapologetically abrasive energy.

Based in Eskilstuna, the four-piece of Fredrik, Gunnar, Tobias and Siri take cues from the uncomfortable intensity of Chat Pile and The Jesus Lizard, favouring physical performances and stripped-back aggression over studio polish. ‘Självförakt’ captures that philosophy particularly well, throwing together heavy bass, explosive guitar riffs and restless percussion without sanding down the rough edges.

That immediacy provides the backdrop for HUVET’s more introspective side. Tobias’ writing regularly moves between mental health, social criticism and poetry, giving the band’s noise-rock attack a distinctly personal foundation. Siri’s addition on vocals and percussion has meanwhile introduced another dynamic to their increasingly volatile sound.

With their debut album approaching, ‘Självförakt’ offers another uncompromising glimpse of a band seemingly far more interested in emotional impact than perfection.
