5. Love + Fear

“Marina goes deep into dance pop territory and although her lyrics sometimes get lost in the synths and beats, the melodies tend to be so catchy that I’m not bothered by it. Her voice sounds so smooth, devoid of the ticks from her earlier work. Maybe her fans will consider that a flaw but I think it just makes the songs stronger. They stand stronger and it’s easier to imagine these tracks being played on the radio.”

4. Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land

“Marina. Once know as Marina and the Diamonds, her music has been life-changing for multiple people, including me. Her music had defined a generation, and this album is no different. From Mans World, to Pandora’s Box, the songs all have deep yet meaningful meanings. I recommend that everyone gives this album a listen.”

3. FROOT

“Marina’s introspective album Froot feels like a natural progression from the angst, trauma and heartbreak she detailed on Electra Heart and The Family Jewels; the album itself having these moments of self-examination, both at herself on the track Happy, and the world around her, like on Savages, with biting lyricism, incredible vocal feats and retro synth pop production. The title track is easily one of my favorite pop songs of all time.”

2. The Family Jewels

“Each and every song here is unique, well written, distinctive, and catchy. There’s honestly nothing like it. The album kicks off with the killer opener “Are You Satisfied?” A almost funny sad song where Marina questions if this is what your satisfied doing with your life. A funny and almost depressing way to start the album, and this is a recurring theme during the album.”

1. Electra Heart

“One of many albums that induce middle school nostalgia. Some of the tracks are less interesting than others, but Marina makes up for it by broaching subjects that teenage me was not expecting. It’s catchy pop music about self-hatred and the expectations placed on women by society, much like her first album, The Family Jewels. Sometimes I still like to listen to Bubblegum Bitch and pretend I’m evil.”
