Sky Ferreira Albums Ranked

Sky Tonia Ferreira (born July 8, 1992) is an American singer, songwriter, model, and actress. As a teenager, Ferreira began uploading videos on Myspace of herself singing songs she had written, which led to her discovery by producers Bloodshy & Avant and a recording contract with Parlophone in 2009. She released her first extended play, As If!, in 2011, which combined elements of electropop and dance music. Ferreira’s second EP Ghost (2012), however, incorporated pop with more stripped-down song structures and featured collaborations with Jon Brion and Shirley Manson, as well as the critically acclaimed track “Everything Is Embarrassing”, which she composed with Dev Hynes. Ferreira’s earlier work incorporated elements of dance-pop, while her recent projects experiment with acoustic, new wave and primarily indie rock musical styles. Her lyrical content originally incorporated themes of rebellion and teenage romance, and has since evolved to discuss personal insecurities and more mature romantic themes. Outside her work in the entertainment industry, she has modeled for several brands and magazines, including serving as the spokeswoman for the hair care brand Redken in 2014. Here are all of Sky Ferreira albums ranked.

3. As If!

“No longer a lolita, Sky Ferreira has moved on to a strange neo-burlesque sound that exemplifies her raspy voice. It’s sexy, but at 18 years of age, Sky is an unconvincing S&M seductress. Yet it’s great when she stays personal and gets it right: I agree with the frisky “Sex Rules” and dig the over-dramatics of “99 Tears”. Plus, she gives more of a fuck about “Haters Anonymous” than the actual haters, which is a refreshing indifference. But then she overextends on the turgid ballad and on the closer’s faux-whimsical lament.”

2. Ghost

“I liked this EP. It was pretty catchy and enjoyable. Sky has a nice voice and it really reminds me of the old 90’s alt rock scene, when women were everywhere. Obviously, it’s a lot more pop based, but that doesn’t really mean anything other than trading guitars for synthesizers. Red Lips and Ghost were my favorite songs, but probably because Red Lips sounds like Cherry Lips by Garbage. I liked how she used synth music as an instrument instead of trying to make a dance pop sound using synth pop.”

1. Night Time, My Time

“This is one of those albums that mix synth pop and alternative rock brilliantly, it also plays with some other genres, especially power pop, so it is my kind of thing. Love the fuzzy, messy production, it is like a breath of fresh air in the era of overproduced, overpolished pop albums.”
