Matching Drapes take aim at Trump-era political absurdity on ‘34 Convictions’

Berlin five-piece Matching Drapes channel political frustration into a sharp blast of indie-punk on their new single ‘34 Convictions’.

Built around distorted guitars, relentless rhythms and a healthy dose of sarcasm, the track takes aim at the personality cult surrounding Donald Trump, using humour to interrogate political theatre, macho posturing and the increasingly surreal nature of public discourse.

It’s fertile territory for a band whose self-described “Shy Punk” has little to do with keeping quiet. Matching Drapes combine the confrontational spirit of riot grrrl with post-punk angles and deceptively immediate indie-pop hooks, bringing a playful edge to subjects spanning gender and relationships to internet culture, contemporary life and, occasionally, cats.

Fans of Amyl & The Sniffers, Gang of Four and Panic Shack should find plenty to enjoy in ‘34 Convictions’, but Matching Drapes bring enough personality to avoid simply retracing familiar ground.
