5. A Class

“The only out and out great song on this CD is Bad Girl Good Girl (which won some reward on Korea); all the songs are driven by some very interesting and original synthpop and the girls are adequate and charming singers. The entire effect is extremely entertaining and fairly danceable–the inspired froth which often has a longer life than any one expects, since it can so permeate a young person’s life, that in the future the music will resonate with sweet transient youth.”

4. Hush

“Three years ago, JYP a leading Kpop production group created the girl group Miss A. Miss A stands for Miss Asia–a name which in view of the success of Korean pop music in east Asia may have seemed a little presumptuous. Yet Miss A stands out from the crowd of Korean girl pop stars–the girls are good dancers, good singers and beautiful and sexy rather than simply cute. Their song Bad Girl Good Girl was a massive Asian hit and one of the great pop songs of 2010–even if almost unheard in America.”

3. Independent Women Pt.III

“K-pop often gets docked for being “derivative” of American music, but if you can derive your way into five top-notch Beyoncé tracks then you have my license to blatantly plagiarize from the rest of her catalog. Which Miss A did with glee; Independent Women Pt. III serves as an unofficial sequel to Destiny Child’s official sequel, and one song even jacks the name of a Beyoncé hit. But truly it’s the swagger they’re after.”

2. Colors

“Miss A’s album Colors is an amazing addition to their already wonderful previous albums. Their songs have beats that my speakers push out in great detail. From Love Songs to Only You, I’m thoroughly enjoying the sounds and beats of each song.”

1. Touch

“Led by a title track from the nether realm of disco, the entirety of the Touch EP is tainted – not eclipsed – by its sensational lead single. The album is dark and mean, and lacks playfulness, which nixes any hopes of cashing in on kawaii factor. Instead Miss A’s four ladies step out as rock stars in the vein of detestable Evanescence singer Amy Lee, but with an allotment of five songs they don’t have the space to fake like their rock dreams are real.”
