No Jacket Required is the third solo studio album by English drummer and singer-songwriter Phil Collins. It was originally released on 25 January 1985 or 18 February 1985 on Virgin (UK and Ireland), Atlantic (the US and Canada), and WEA (rest of the world). It features guest backing vocalists, including Helen Terry, Peter Gabriel and Sting. Some of the songs, like “Don’t Lose My Number” and “Sussudio”, were based around improvisation. Other songs, like “Long Long Way to Go”, had a political message. “One More Night”, “Sussudio”, “Don’t Lose My Number” and “Take Me Home” were released as singles, with corresponding music videos. All four singles were top-ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, with “Sussudio” and “One More Night” reaching number one. The three singles that were released in the UK all reached the top 20 on the UK charts. Many of the songs, including “Take Me Home” and “Long Long Way to Go”, have been featured in episodes of Miami Vice and Cold Case, and “The Man with the Horn” was re-written and re-recorded for the episode “Phil the Shill”. “We Said Hello Goodbye” was remixed for the film Playing for Keeps. 10. Long Long Way to Go
“This song features Sting in a very prominent guest vocal. Collins and Sting actually performed this song at Live Aid together. This is the most serious of the tracks as it discusses dealing with death. This is the one song on the album that isn’t “dark”.
9. Inside Out
“Inside Out” which was a great mid-tempo rocker and was a huge US rock radio hit (I remember what was then known as Album Oriented Rock radio stations in my native Boston playing this track alot). The saxophone solo from Don Myrick here was phenomenal and Daryl Stuermer’s guitar solo at the end was superb.”
8. Doesn’t Anybody Stay Together Anymore
“We follow with one of my favorites on the album which was another Collins/Stuermer collaboration “Doesn’t Anybody Stay Together Anymore” which sounds similar to the work Phil’s ex-Genesis bandmate Peter Gabriel did on his third solo album (which Phil played drums on a few years earlier).”

7. Only You Know and I Know
“Only You Know and I Know” – possibly one of the most underrated songs of his career. Once again great use of horns and Phil really hammers those drums. Phil touches on the relationship theme here.”
6. I Don’t Wanna Know
“I Don’t Wanna Know” – this is song that goes back and touches the theme of Phil’s breakup. Phil paints a vision of what would happen if his ex would take him back. There is some great sax play on this song.”
5. Who Said I Would
“Another highly underrated song. Great horns, great vocals. This song is even better live on the “Serious Hits: Live” album. This song has that energetic & heavy feel to it, but has something else that “Only You Know And I Know” & “I Don’t Wanna Know” lack and that is a fun-filled sound.”

4. Take Me Home
“Take Me Home” – this became the staple closing song of Phil’s concerts. It has almost a mantra quality. The background vocals feature Sting and Phil’s former Genesis mate – Peter Gabriel. Terrific.”
3. Don’t Lose My Number
“This is the third of the four hits from this album and everybody, especially the Phil Collins fans should love this song. Phil has definitely a way of recording fun-filled songs. This song along with the video in which Phil tries to figure out a “video” to make helped enhance Phil’s “fun” image.”

“Sussudio”: Right off the bat, Collins establishes the lighter element. He makes up a word – Sussudio. This song did suffer from being overplayed, but the impact of this new word can be felt. The Horns also play a great role on this song.”

“One More Night” is a beautiful ballad, easily one of Phil Collin’s best songs ever. The beauty of this ballad is that it would have been great in the hands of any good ballad singer, such as Madonna or Celine Dion.”
