Northlane are an Australian heavy metal band from Sydney, formed in 2009. The band comprises guitarists Jon Deiley and Josh Smith, drummer Nic Pettersen and vocalist Marcus Bridge. Northlane have released six studio albums: Discoveries (11 November 2011); Singularity (22 March 2013), which reached No. 3 on the ARIA Albums Chart; Node (24 July 2015), a number-one album; Mesmer (24 March 2017), Alien (2 August 2019) and Obsidian (22 April 2022). At the ARIA Music Awards of 2015 the group won the Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album category for their album Node. At the ARIA Music Awards of 2017, the band won again with Mesmer. The band won the Best Hard Rock or Heavy Metal Album category for the third time at the ARIA Music Awards of 2019 for their 2019 album Alien. Here are all of Northlane’s songs ranked.

10. Solace (Discoveries, 2011)

“Despite introducing some djent and prog elements to their sound, they still have the same basic metalcore sound from the EP for the most part. The songs are slightly better but overall, I don’t see a huge progression here. Still worth checking out but this has been called their best album, leaving me with little hope for the rest of their material.”

“When i checked out the demo these guys put out a while back, i was not impressed too much. But when this album came out , theyd thrown away a lot of their “generic” tendencies for more progressive ones, and thats what many “core” bands should be doing to make their music interesting”

7. Intuition (Mesmer, 2017

“I really like the song, the new vocalist has really grown on me and his performance on this song is really dynamic and badass. I feel like every time I listen to this bands new material they sound totally different and they’re on a different label. Always good though.”

“Spiritual awakening, anyone? It’s beautiful that they’ve paired such melodic mastery and beautiful lyrics with such a chaotic sound, perfectly symbolising the balance of life. Absolute masterpiece.”

“If the album gets released instrumental I’m going to cover a bunch of it in Adrian’s style. I’m reasonably close to both his old techniques and curious about how he would’ve sounded on the new material”

“This song really just never gets old, huh? Been jamming to this OFTEN since like 2016. This is one of my all time faves from any genre, man. This song watches life unravel from a looking glass to me.”
