One Of These Nights Songs Ranked

One of These Nights is the fourth studio album by the Eagles, released in 1975. In July that year, the record became the Eagles’ first number one album on Billboard’s album chart, yielding three Top 10 singles: “One of These Nights”, “Lyin’ Eyes” and “Take It to the Limit”. Its title song is the group’s second number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. The album sold four million copies and was nominated for Grammy Album of the Year. A single from the album, “Lyin’ Eyes”, was also nominated for Record of the Year, and won the Eagles’ first Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals. One of These Nights is the last Eagles album to feature guitarist Bernie Leadon, who left the band after One of These Nights tours and was replaced by Joe Walsh. The seventh track, “Visions”, is the only Eagles song on which lead guitarist Don Felder sang the lead vocals, despite his desire to write and sing more songs. The album was the band’s commercial breakthrough, transforming them into international superstars. They went on a worldwide tour to promote the album.

9. I Wish You Peace

“Bernie Leadon takes the lead again. This was his last album with these guys, and it does sound like a farewell. The song is kind of odd, though.

8. Visions

“Another little gem that pops up on nearly every Eagles album. This is the one and only song by guitarist Don Felder. The only song I have found that he sings on.

7. Journey of the Sorcerer

“No one else in the group wanted to include it on the album but its writer (Bernie Leadon) yet it’s one of the most interesting tracks on it, mainly because of its experimental nature and also the fact that it’s instrumental. Something rarely done by The Eagles, if you don’t count on the 48 second Doolin-Dalton from Desperado.”

6. After the Thrill is Gone

“After The Thrill Is Gone is a good example of an attitude of wondering if riches and fame are all that they’d cracked up to be.  “After the Thrill is Gone” which was sung by Frey and Henley and was a superb ballad about breaking up.”

5. Hollywood Waltz

“Don has some highlights though and they include a poignant very Country vocal on “Hollywood Waltz” a song that aptly described the Southern California of 1975, and also where the Eagles were heading.”

4. Too Many Hands

“This is one of those classic Eagles songs with a double meaning–it sounds like it could be about a “loose” woman but it’s actually about Mother Earth. The dueling guitar solos at the end are awesome.”

3. One of These Nights

“While having a cool bass/guitar intro, a nice solo and amazing falsetto vocals by Randy Meisner, the song drags on a little and if it were a minute shorter it would gain a lot.”

2. Lyin’ Eyes

“Side Two of the album starts with the album’s second single “Lyin’ Eyes”, which was one of Glenn’s best lead vocals songs and one of few 6 minute tracks to top the charts and is a great country-rocker.”

1. Take It to the Limit

“Randy Meisner’s most well-known song with the Eagles. He has a great voice. A grand and melodious stop-and-go ballad, sung by Meisner whom gave his best vocal performance (especially the high notes at the end) on this track and was also a Top 3 hit.”
