Desperado Songs Ranked

Desperado is the second studio album by the American band the Eagles. It was recorded at Island Studios in London, England, and released in 1973. The songs on Desperado are based on the themes of the Old West. The band members are featured on the album’s cover dressed like an outlaw gang; Desperado remains the only Eagles album where the band members appear on the front cover. Although the title track is one of the Eagles’ signature songs, it was never released as a single. The song “Desperado” was ranked number 494 on Rolling Stone’s 2004 list of “The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time”. The album did yield two singles, “Tequila Sunrise” and “Outlaw Man”, which reached number 64 and number 59 respectively. The album reached number 41 on the Billboard album chart and was certified gold by the RIAA on September 23, 1974, and double platinum on March 20, 2001. Here are all of Desperado’s songs ranked.

10. Doolin-Dalton

“This is a solid concept album by one of America’s all time favorite bands. My interest is less than fanatic, but the early stuff really appeals to me. This one is a particular favorite as it features some really strong songs.”

8. Twenty-One

7. Saturday Night

“Of all the songs on here, “Saturday Night” is my favorite. The hero is looking back on his life and wonders what happened: “Whatever happened to Saturday night” when he was in love, things were looking up for him, and his town wasn’t a ghost town.”

6. Out of Control

“Out of Control” is the most savage rocker of their career and the very epitome of the wild-guys’-night-out motif that appears throughout their catalog, although the bland guitar solo shows why it’s a good thing they hired Don Felder on their next album.”

5. Outlaw Man

“The Eagles didn’t invent country-rock, although all of them were involved with groups that dove into those deep, turbulent waters early on. What they did was evolve and perfect the form, taking it to new levels. Desperado is the quintessential country-rock album”

4. Tequila Sunrise

“Tequila Sunrise” is a great ballad to relax to after the heavy rock of the previous track and was the album’s biggest hit.  A truly brilliant song by Glenn Frey. “Take another shot of courage…..”

3. Doolin-Dalton (Instrumental)

“The Doolin-Dalton instrumental shows off their accomplished pickin’ skills. If you are a fan of Country-Rock, this album is a must for your collection. It shows what can be done when a group of highly talented musicians write some great songs and capture the magic on tape. They blazed a trail for so many new artists to walk.”

2. Certain Kind of Fool

“Randy Meisner takes the lead here, and his high voice couldn’t fit this song any better. Randy Meisner’s Certain Kind Of Fool is the definitive song in drawing parallels between outlaws and musicians.”

1. Desperado

“This stands as a sort of concept album, with an interesting flow from the softer/slower tracks, to the mid-tempo rockers, and back and forth. The acoustic nature of this, the Eagles’ second album, is what creates a classic western atmosphere.”
