P.O.D., an initialism for Payable on Death, is an American Christian metal band formed in 1992 and based in San Diego, California. The band’s line-up consists of drummer and rhythm guitarist Wuv Bernardo, vocalist Sonny Sandoval, bassist Traa Daniels, and lead guitarist Marcos Curiel. They have sold over 12 million records worldwide. Over the course of their career, the band has received three Grammy Award nominations, contributed to numerous motion picture soundtracks and toured internationally. With their third studio album, The Fundamental Elements of Southtown, they achieved their initial mainstream success; the album was certified platinum by the RIAA in 2000. Their following studio album, Satellite, continued the band’s success with the singles, “Alive” and “Youth of the Nation”, pushing it to go triple platinum. Here are all of P.O.D. albums ranked.

10. The Awakening

“After their last dismal effort P.O.D. slapped themselves in the face, regained consciousness and came up with a half-decent album. Half-decent because the other half is not music but a story. I get what they’ve done here although this album would’ve been much more listenable if they made all the skits into short cut scenes added to the disc. You can listen to them once and then they become irritating ‘cos you just want instruments smashing stuff up.”

9. Circles

“With Circles, the band sounds vital, seasoned and tight, the tunes decent, but this one really “feels” like more of the same – definitely a fan album as it plays to all of their past strengths but yet doesn’t really cut into new territory. And that’s okay, (these are still good songs), although I would add that none of the songs here do it better or more beautifully than what has gone before.”

8. Snuff The Punk

“P.O.D. sound punkish on this release, and that’s not a bad CD. Starting from their latest CDs and eventually working your way back to this one, you might be disappointed. I think they were still trying to discover their song.”

7. When Angels And Serpents Dance

“All the hype that was built up around this album wasn’t necessarily good but the music proved it wrong. While this isn’t a perfect album by any means it was a solid hard rock release. It shows just how well rounded and how many different styles they can have. The first track shows them still using a bit of the rapping vocals but not making it a full on rap rock album.”

6. Brown

Brown established P.O.D. as a significant creative force. It’s obvious why they got a major-label deal after this and, frankly, Brown is a far more interesting release than The Fundamental Elements of Southtown (it would take another album before P.O.D. figured out what to do with the budget upgrade and studio magic that Atlantic was giving them).”

5. Testify

“Completely underrated and under appreciated. This album is strong from start to finish and also contains P.O.D.’s best song of their career “Strength of My Life”. It’s sad to see the lack of time and marketing the label put into this record. It’s even worse to see the lack of respect and positive feedback from the RYM ratings. This is the record that set P.O.D. musical ability at its heights.”

4. Payable On Death

“Very catchy nu-metal but this album is not very consistent at all. This band is actually a lot better than their contemporaries but overall this album is weak. There are some really catchy moments and the occassional heavy riff that reminds us that this band does belong to nu/rap metal, but this is not all that memorable.”

3. Murdered Love

“Murdered Love is the sound of an underdog band turned veteran. Sonny Sandoval sounds absolutely inspired on every track. The bass grooves and rocks, as do the drums, and the guitars provide substance and stylized seasoning (and the occasional solo). There are even a few keyboards thrown in for good measure. Tracks such as “Beautiful” and “Bad Boy” sound unlike anything P.O.D. have ever done before.”

2. The Fundamental Elements Of Southtown

“P.O.D. is amazing. I saw them in concert not too long ago, and I was even more blown away than I was with the album. Their music is amazing, their talent is amazing, and their message is amazing. I just with more people were fans of theirs.”

1. Satellite

“I have not listened to P.O.D. that much in the past. I like Christian music, and a lot of secular music as well. This is in between. The songs aren’t always necessarily Christian in the sense of saying Jesus and God alot. It is more positively charged music that appeals to more than just Christians. It is, most basicly, an attempt at influencing a generation that is not exactly thought of as the most caring or polite generation ever”
