Passenger Albums Ranked
Michael David Rosenberg (born 17 May 1984), better known by his stage name Passenger, is an English singer-songwriter and musician. Previously the main vocalist and songwriter of Passenger, Rosenberg opted to keep the band’s name for his solo work after the band dissolved in 2009. In 2012, he released the song “Let Her Go” which topped the charts in 16 countries. In 2014, the song was nominated for the Brit Award for British Single of the Year, and he received the British Academy’s Ivor Novello Award for Most Performed Work. Rosenberg did his first performance when he was 16.[citation needed] Rosenberg’s father, a film production worker, introduced him to a former member of the band Faithless, Jamie Catto, in 2001; this led to Rosenberg getting a two-song spot at the Free Burma Campaign benefit gig at the Royal Court in London in 2002. On the night, Rosenberg met his future writing partner Andrew Phillips and established contact with the IE Music label. Back in Brighton, Phillips, and Rosenberg pooled their musical influences (from Simon & Garfunkel to DJ Shadow) and started to write songs at Phillips’ in-house studio in Hove. In 2003, they formed the Mike Rosenberg Band, engaging Marcus O’Dair (bass), Alon Cohen (drums), and Richard Brinklow (keyboards) through connections within the Brighton music scene. Here are all of the Passenger albums ranked.

9. Flight Of The Crow (2010)
“Songwriter, artist, musician, poet, entertainer, philosopher, storyteller – If you love and appreciate great song craft and are not yet fully immersed in Passenger’s work, you should be. If you are familiar and fully acquainted but don’t absolutely love what he does, then there is something wrong with you.”
8. Songs For The Drunk And Broken Hearted (2021)
“Passenger writes and sings in a style that reminds me of some of the folk music from the 60s. Yet he is definitely not stuck in the 60s. I love the voice and production of every song. I’m brought to tears and smiles and memories.”
7. Runaway (2018)
“So, I’ve really appreciated every album Passenger has put out there, but a few are truly epic. Whispers comes to mind. A few of his albums have been a little on the soft and sleepy side for my preference, but I do still enjoy them. After The Boy Who Cried Wolf, I was not expecting Runaway to be what it is. This one definitely returns to more passionate and moving lyrics and songcraft and is more energetic. It’s not my favorite of Passenger’s work, but it is near the top. Hell or High Water, Heart to Love, Runaway, Eagle Bear Buffalo, To Be Free, and Survivors are all standouts to me. I know that’s half the album, but still… that’s just proof this one is killer. The rest of the tracks are great, too.”

6. Whispers (2014)
“Another fantastic album from the brilliant singer-songwriter Mike Rosenberg, aka Passenger. His lyrics are, as always, poetic, stirring and witty. He paints vivid pictures and tells moving stories to beautiful melodies. The Deluxe edition of this CD is the one to get, because it adds acoustic versions of many songs — which are like different interpretations of the same idea.”
5. Young As The Morning, Old As The Sea (2016)
“I cannot say enough good things about this album. It is fantastic, start to finish. If you are a fan of Passenger, you will not be disappointed. As for the vinyl, the package is a fitting match to the album itself. The lyric book is beautiful. The vinyl is a high quality pressing. The extra acoustic album is a very nice treat.”

4. Divers And Submarines (2010)
“I first became aware of Passenger at the end of an episode of Elementary when they used a piece of Feather on the Clyde (still my favorite Passenger song). Since then I have purchased all five of his albums and he has become my favorite artist. Listening to this album today, I wondered if Passenger could be the modern day Paul Simon. His complex, thought-provoking lyrics and varied use of instruments as well as successful collaborations with other artists over the past ten years gives me hope for even more great music to come.”
3. Wicked Man’s Rest (2007)
“Right at the top of the collective Passenger albums. Great chemistry in the music. Labeled,”Indie Rock.” But more “Folk Rock,” If you need to call it something other than great music. Well produced, with a quality listen from beginning to end. No Passenger fan would be without it.”
2. The Boy Who Cried Wolf (2017)
“Another collection of great songs by Mike aka Passenger, For a guy so charismatic and funny he does err on the dark and down side of the human emotive state, but don’t let that deter you every album is a gem, with lot’s of humour entwined throughout, and this is no different, listen, love and cherish. It’s hard to find music of substance out there in the world of x-factor and glorified karaoke singers. Passenger and his music is a shining beacon in that darkness,”
1. All The Little Lights (2012)
“The subjects in his songs are directly related to my generation from the disdain for society to feelings of inadequacy of accomplishment. He illustrates these ideas eloquently and fits it into good music. I wasn’t expecting that at all, so it was a pleasant surprise. So this is modern folk music.”
