Peter Green Albums Ranked

Peter Allen Greenbaum (29 October 1946 – 25 July 2020), known professionally as Peter Green, was an English blues-rock singer-songwriter and guitarist. As the founder of Fleetwood Mac, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Green’s songs, such as “Albatross”, “Black Magic Woman”, “Oh Well”, “The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)” and “Man of the World”, appeared on singles charts, and several have been adapted by a variety of musicians. Green was a major figure in the “second great epoch” of the British blues movement. Eric Clapton praised his guitar playing, and B.B. King commented, “He has the sweetest tone I ever heard; he was the only one who gave me the cold sweats.”Green was interested in expressing emotion in his songs, rather than showing off how fast he could play. His trademark sound included string bending, vibrato, and economy of style. Rolling Stone ranked Green at number 58 in its list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time”. His tone on the instrumental “The Super-Natural” was rated as one of the 50 greatest of all time by Guitar Player. In June 1996, Green was voted the third-best guitarist of all time in Mojo magazine. Here are all of Peter Green albums ranked.

8. Blues By Green (2003)

“Blues By Green”, released in 2003, is the perfect initiation into the styles and songs of Peter Green, diverse, yet all bluesy in one way or another. Though there’ve been many compilations of his music, this one possesses all the Green magic, mood swings, and some of the sweetest notes ever played on an electric guitar. His voice is erratic, lazy, and coarse – yet suitable throughout.”

7. Blue Guitar (1981)

“The versions played here are very good and I guess for want of a better phrase… immortalize the great songs of a musical genius…..Peter Green. This is a beautifully presented double cd set with terrific fold-out liner notes, the sort of treatment you would expect for a blues guitar icon. You’ll love i”

6. Time Traders (2001)

“This album is a little towards rock/pop than the other Splinter Group albums and other Peter Green albums. It reminds of some of the worst Clapton albums, but not as bad as Clapton’s worst (like August). This album does have a number of guest musicians and they add a pop sound.”

5. Little Dreamer (1980)

“I love this album. When it came out in 1980, I listened to it all the time – loud. My college roomate had bought “In the Skies”, which blew our socks off. I bought this album. We had this rule that we wouldn’t repeat each others purchases. Well, clearly, “In the Skies” is a better album, but this one is a great follow-up. It doesn’t have a killer track like “A Fool No More”, but every song is solid. I love Peter Green’s version of “Born Under A Bad Sign”. “Loser Two Times” is also a great track.”

4. Peter Green Splinter Group (1997)

“An absolutely brilliant album, how this reinvention of Peter Green & Co didn’t go global is beyond me. he is simply a genius. even with his whispered vocals.”

3. The End Of The Game (1970)

“This is one of the most unique albums – there are none other like it. I bought the vinyl back in the day. It took me a few listens but then I was hooked. I do not know how this band came together and could communicate with each other so well, while each holding up diverse elements of their playing. It is positively brilliant. There is not music category it can be placed in, except maybe experimental – though all the parts come together cohesively. “

2. In The Skies (1979)

“”In The Skies” is a slow beautiful ballad in the pure Carlos Santana style with Latin rhythms and clear guitar. I think this is a great album, and I thoroughly enjoy it every time I play it. The sound quality is sort of crappy, but the music is there in spades. The album is mellow and has a chill feel to it, but at the same time, songs have awesome grooves to them and that rock edge without being edgy. Peter’s vocals sound mellow but very competent, and his playing is subtle but outstanding and very enjoyable.”

1. The Anthology (2008)

“Easily five stars! Peter Green is one of the all time greats. Amazing from start to finish and not a bad song in the bunch. I already had all of his Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall recordings as well as In the Skies and Little Dreamer from the 80’s. There are plenty of great songs on here that you may not have heard.”
