Powerman 5000 Albums Ranked

Powerman 5000 (also known as PM5K) is an American rock band formed in 1991. The group has released ten albums, gaining its highest level of commercial success with 1999’s Tonight the Stars Revolt!, which reached number 29 on the Billboard 200 while spawning the singles “When Worlds Collide” and “Nobody’s Real”. Frontman Spider One, younger brother of fellow metal musician Rob Zombie, has been the only consistent member of the lineup since the band’s formation. Powerman 5000’s music is driven by staccato guitar playing and electronic samples, which has been compared to the music of Rob Zombie, Spider One’s older brother. This style has primarily been described as industrial metal. The band’s early album Mega!! Kung Fu Radio featured a different style from the one which the band is generally known for; this album incorporated elements of heavy metal, hip hop, hard rock and funk. Transform featured more emphasis on melody and human-driven sounds, shifting away from the computerized sounds of the band’s earlier albums. Destroy What You Enjoy featured a punk-driven sound. Here are all of Powerman 5000 albums ranked.

8. Destroy What You Enjoy

“This album was prety good. a definite change from all the other albums, but still ok. The best songs are Wild World, Enimies, and Murder. I agree with the below review that it takes some time to grow on you, and ill probably review this again with higher ratings. Its not terrible, but its not my favorite album. Id say not the best album to buy as a first of the PM5K collection. only for true PM5K fans.”

7. Copies, Clones & Replicants

“I love the cover tune recordings from bands I already like. This one is really well done – excellent choice of tunes for someone who graduated high school in the 80’s I did miss the heavyness of them though – not the usual Guitar going on – even in the spots where these songs have Crunchy Guitar originally.”

6. Builders of the Future

“This doesn’t add anything to their legacy – and why would it, their legacy is really just one album – but the sheer energy and focus make Builders Of the Future probably their best album since Transform, for whatever that’s worth. Like most of their music, it’s pretty friggin’ dumb, but it’s fun.”

5. Somewhere on the Other Side of Nowhere

“This album has lots of well thought out lyrics and is like Tonight The Stars Revolt and Transform with some Destroy What You Enjoy in it. It is a very unique album for that reason, and is one of those albums where every track is good. The intro Intelligent Creatures really gives you a feel for what the album is gonna be like. The best tracks in my opinion are Super Villain, Do Your Thing, and V Is For Vampire.”

4. Transform

“Transform is their fifth album and was released in 2003. I have heard only one of their other albums (that being what was supposed to be their best album Tonight the Stars Revolt!), but this one is easily their best. I just love the kick-back don’t-take-any-shit-from-anybody attitude they have on here.”

3. Mega!! Kung Fu Radio

“Mega!! Kung Fu Radio is booming with personality, infectious hooks, heavy grooves, high energy, and Spider One’s deadpan delivery of abstract lyricism. What separates Powerman from other rap metal bands is how perfectly they play in both genres. They aren’t just rapping over metal riffing, they’re blending chunky metal grooves with funky hip hop rhythms seamlessly like they were meant for each other. It’s a perfect way to get a metal fan into hip hop, or vice-versa.”

2. Anyone For Doomsday?

“This would have been the last good Powerman 5000 album…if it was ever released. The only way you can listen to these songs is buy buying a RARE promo album, or downloading them off of the internet. Its really a shame, because this album would have been great. In my opinion everything after this “Album that never was” and before “Tonight the Stars Revolt” are just horrible. I was able to stand “Transform” to an extent, but it just isnt right you know? “

1. Tonight the Stars Revolt!

“Tonight The Stars Revolt was a pretty good debut for Powerman 5000, with some of the best songs they ever made. There’s “When Worlds Collide” which is the song that got me into the band, “Nobody’s Real”, and “Super Nova Goes Pop”. The reason the rating isn’t higher is because there are some really stupid/pointless tracks such as the first track and “System 11:11″. Powerman 5000 are a pretty good band, but with more effort they could be even better.”
