Ramones Albums Ranked

The Ramones were an American punk rock band that formed in the New York City neighborhood of Forest Hills, Queens in 1974. They are often cited as the first true punk rock group.  Despite achieving only limited commercial success initially, the band was highly influential in the United States, South America, and the United Kingdom.
All of the band members adopted pseudonyms ending with the surname “Ramone”, although none of them were biologically related; they were inspired by Paul McCartney of The Beatles, who would check into hotels as “Paul Ramon”. They performed 2,263 concerts, touring virtually nonstop for 22 years. In 1996, after a tour with the Lollapalooza music festival, the band played a farewell concert and disbanded.  By 2014, all four of the band’s original members had died – lead singer Joey Ramone (1951–2001), bassist Dee Dee Ramone (1951–2002), guitarist Johnny Ramone (1948–2004) and drummer Tommy Ramone (1949–2014). The remaining surviving members of the Ramones – bassist C. J. Ramone and drummers Marky Ramone, Richie Ramone, and Elvis Ramone – are still active as musicians.
Recognition of the band’s importance built over the years, and they are now mentioned in many assessments of all-time great rock music, such as number 26 in the Rolling Stone magazine list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time” and number 17 in VH1’s “100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock”. In 2002, the Ramones were ranked the second-greatest band of all time by Spin, trailing only the Beatles. On March 18, 2002, the original four members and Tommy’s replacement on drums, Marky Ramone, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on their first year of eligibility, though Joey had died by then. In 2011, the group was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Here are all of The Ramones’ albums ranked.

4. Road to Ruin (1978)

“This album is really their best in my opinion. The sound production was a bit more clean than the other records, but what i like about this album is that it is more raw. All of their songs cannot be skipped! Johnny’s guitar is just awesome with Marky’s hard drumming. By the way, i agree with one of the reviewers below,If you dont like The Ramones, you dont like Rock n Roll. “

3. Leave Home (1977)

“My favorite Ramones album with TONS of tracks I’ve never heard before, this is a GREAT LP, a must for your collection. This set has many versions of this albums tracks, along with B-Sides and unreleased tracks. I’ve been playing these discs for days and this is an incredible collection. If you love the Ramones, you must add this to your collection ASAP”

2. Ramones (1976)

“The music gets five stars, no question. This is one of the most vitally important albums in the history of rock n roll; it galvanized the sound of punk rock, it influenced tons of bands, breathed life and energy into an entire genre, motivated thousands of kids to grab an electric guitar (including me at 14) and to this day the Ramones debut is still just a super fun album.”

1.Rocket to Russia (1977)

“Rocket to Russia is one of the great guitar albums ever recorded….it has gone with me on every road trip…airplane trip. This is one of those albums that most people love the first time they hear it. The mixture of hard and fast guitar riffs with gorgeous surf inspired melodies and hooks galore is too intoxicating to resist.”
