Ray Price Albums Ranked

Noble Ray Price (January 12, 1926 – December 16, 2013) was an American country music singer, songwriter, and guitarist. His wide-ranging baritone is regarded as among the best male voices of country music, and his innovations, such as propelling the country beat from 2/4 to 4/4, known as the “Ray Price beat”, helped make country music more popular. Some of his well-known recordings include “Release Me”, “Crazy Arms”, “Heartaches by the Number”, “For the Good Times”, “Night Life”, and “You’re the Best Thing That Ever Happened to Me”. He was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1996. He continued to record and tour into his 80s. Price began singing and playing guitar as a teenager but at first chose a career in veterinary medicine. He was attending North Texas Agricultural College in preparation for that career when his studies were interrupted by America’s entry into World War II. Price was drafted in 1944 and served in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater. He returned to the college after the war and, in 1972, was honored as a distinguished alumnus. 5. The Essential Ray Price (1951-1962)

“If you like classic country music, the way it was intended to be played and heard, well, here’s Ray Price at his best. Plenty of twin fiddles and steel guitar from the Cherokee Cowboys, Ray Price’s long time back up band which once included the likes of Willie Nelson and Roger Miller among others. This is twangy country with most of the songs recorded in the 1950’s.”

4. All His Greatest Hits

“I love Ray Price and most of his songs…there are a couple where he sounds as if he is imitating Hank Williams. But as he matured and came into his own, and let his natural style take over…he can’t be beat in country music. He will be forever missed.”

3. Ray Price’s Greatest Hits

“Really touches my heart to hear the easy voice of Ray Price. I am more into classical and blues, but Ray Price’s voice is so appealing. His songs are for the good times and for the not so good times.”

2. For The Good Times

“Ray Price has come a long way and burned many bridges to establish his orchestrated Country style and with his reading of the Kris Kristofferson composition “For the Good Times” he finally hit home big time. The song itself is unbelievably beautiful in its sadness, many have sung it later on, but only Ray Price can get the best out of it. I don’t know one single recording that is as sad and as beautiful as this.”

1. Night Life

“This music in my eyes is very average and similar to things i’ve heard before. However, this album in particular sounds very well thought out and finished. It’s a nice touch seeing as a lot of the albums i’ve been listening too in my album book sound very experimental. Ray Price has gone out with an idea and has delivered what you’d expect.”
