Reggatta De Blanc Songs Ranked
Reggatta de Blanc is the second studio album by English rock band the Police, released on 2 October 1979 by A&M Records. It was the band’s first release to top the UK Albums Chart and features their first two UK number-one singles: “Message in a Bottle” and “Walking on the Moon”. In early 1980, the album was reissued in the United States on two 10″ discs, one album side per disc, and as a collector’s edition with a poster of the band. The music features the Police’s distinctive appropriation of reggae and frontman Sting’s Caribbean vocal inflections. The album’s title loosely translates in French to “White Reggae”. It was the band’s second album to bear a Franglais title, after their 1978 debut album Outlandos d’Amour. Reggatta de Blanc proved more popular and successful than its predecessor. The title track earned the band their first Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance. In 2003, Reggatta de Blanc was ranked at number 369 on Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. Here are all of Reggatta De Blanc songs ranked.

11. No Time This Time
“‘No Time This Time’ is a bit of a chaotic mess, but it doesn’t take away from the fact that Reggatta de Blanc is mostly very solid and enjoyable.”
10. Does Everyone Stare
“Interesting track with a nod to pop and jazz. Listen to Stewart Copeland singing the first verses on the piano. Copeland’s songs ruin the second half of Regetta with their obvious and bad hooks, and one can’t help but feel that Sting should have taken more leaves out of Hitler’s book and insisted on total, unquestioning obedience.”
9. On Any Other Day
“The one and only song entirely written (and sung) by Stewart Copeland on any Police album. It is one of the goofiest (and cheessiest) of all the Police songbook. It is about a man`s disastrous life in one day at home. Copeland adds some sense of humor to that song, making it a fun tune to crank on “

8. The Bed’s Too Big Without You
“Like Bring on The Night and Walking On The Moon, TBTBWY is another fantastic straight forward reggae tune. Sting`s vocals, bass lines and songwriting are fantastic, while Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland are not short of brilliance.”
7. Deathwish
“This is probably one of the hidden gems on this album. It has a wonderful mix of reggae, jazz and cutting edge rock. Again, Stewart Copeland showed his best talent as a drummer, by changing its pace from slow to fast, whenever it was needed”
6. It’s Alright for You
“It`s a fun song to crank on your stereo: solid, energetic, powerful. What else can you expect from these guys?”
5. Contact
“Another short-but -effective tune that starts out slow-paced, changing to a fast pace from mid to end. The punk energy of the last album has been replaced by something more sophisticated… a kind of reggae influenced pop the band became famous for, “message in a bottle” and “walking on the moon” both got to number one heralding the band going absolutely stellar with this album.”

4. Bring on the Night
“This song was my formal introduction to The Police, at a time when I wasn`t quite familiar to the band. This reggae-jazz-rock tune is based upon “Prince Carrion”, a song recorded by Sting in the mid seventies with his former band “Last Exit”. Sting is not the only one who shines here. Listen to Andy Summers` atmospheric guitar textures and Stewart Copeland`s solid drumming. It became a staple on Police live concerts, as well as on Sting’s solo career.”
3. Walking on the Moon
“A fantastic straight forward reggae tune that eventually led the band on their way to stardom. It was backed-up with a famous video showing the band playing at the Kennedy Space Center”
2. Reggatta de Blanc
“This is one of the most interesting tracks on the album. It is actually a short-but-effective semi-instrumental rock tune. Incidentally, it has been featured on live concerts along with “Can`t Stand Losing You”, many times. And helped the band to win their first Grammy Award ever.”
1. Message in a Bottle
“Every Police fan knows this song by heart. It is one of the most energetic and, at the same time, darkest Police song, delving into the topic of isolation, loneliness and hope. It is also my favorite Police song and my favorite rock song of all time”
