Royal Blood Songs Ranked

Royal Blood is an English rock duo formed in Brighton in 2011, consisting of Mike Kerr (vocals, bass guitar) and Ben Thatcher (drums). Their sound is anchored in Kerr’s unique bass playing technique, in which he uses various effects pedals to make his bass guitar sound like a standard electric guitar. Their self-titled debut album was released in August 2014. Their second album How Did We Get So Dark? followed in June 2017. Here are all of Royal Blood songs ranked.

20. You Want Me (Royal Blood, 2014)

“Everything we love about those two guys is in this song. It is impossible for me to tell how “You Want Me” didn’t manage to find “a way out” on their first album.”

19. Don’t Tell (How Did We Get So Dark?, 2017)

“Royal Blood’s sophomore effort follows exactly where their debut left off. The catchy, chuggy riffs that I fell in love with are still here in all their glory and the songwriting is still as consistent as ever.”

18. You Can Be So Cruel (Royal Blood, 2014)

“I’ve been listening to these guys for years and just recently heard this song. They are huge queen of the stone age fans like myself and it shows a little bit in this song.”

17. Hole (Out Of The Black, 2014)

“May be biased because this is the album that truly got my into rock, but the album is objectively incredible. Not every song is a banger, but all of them are unique and not skip-able in the slightest.”

16. Blood Hands (Royal Blood, 2014)

“Bursting onto the scene, mainly during the summer of 2014, the sound these guys create with a drum and bass guitar is phenomenal. The bass guitar essentially does the work normally done by a rhythm and lead guitar in your normal set up.”

15. Careless (Royal Blood, 2014)

“Royal Blood is one of the rarest albums of the century that I liked from the first listen without digging it deeper and deeper. It sounds very familiar, surely some tracks have the same riff behind them.”

14. Where are You Now? (How Did We Get So Dark?, 2017)

“All this introductory roll only serves to explain that there was an important expectation before the new LP of the English, How did we get so dark ?. In it they have returned to act as producers themselves, again with the help of Tom Dalgety and Jolyon Thomas. It seems that some emotional breakdown and greater maturity provoke both the title and a more disenchanted and pessimistic lyrics.”

13. Hole in Your Heart (How Did We Get So Dark?, 2017)

“Incredibly atmospheric, and more mature from a lyrical aspect, this song is easily the band’s magnum opus. Takes royal blood a level above even the excellence that is come on over and little monster”

12. Come on Over (Royal Blood, 2014)

“The fast, punkish beat, with heavy sounding riffs and a badass bend makes for a sick and memorable jam that was stuck in my head the first time I heard it.”

11. Hook, Line, and Sinker (How Did We Get So Dark?, 2017)

“Hook, Like & Sinker, successful second single, breaks with a certain monotony from the previous songs in an aggressive song with sharp, persistent and full of effects strings.”

10. Better Strangers (Royal Blood, 2014)

“Better Strangers” is an archetypal middle-of-album track, a slight slowing of the pace before the charge is redoubled, and it’s very weird hearing it stuck right at the end here, a decision that does no favours at all to either the song itself or the album as a whole.”

9. Sleep (How Did We Get So Dark?, 2017)

“Sleep, the longest song -the only one that exceeds 4 minutes- starring a bass that does not stop twisting and maintaining intensity throughout the song.”

8. I Only Lie When I Love You (How Did We Get So Dark?, 2017)

“They continue with the bravado, chulesca and whitestripiana I only lie when I love you, in which Kerr sings proudly. “I Only lie when I make a sound” Amazing. I can’t lie, this is my favorite song from their new album.”

7. Loose Change (Royal Blood, 2014)

“New hard rock is SO hard to find lately so I was thrilled the first time I heard this band. This album is awesome! Stripped down, loud and catchy – I love it!”

6. How Did We Get So Dark? (How Did We Get So Dark?, 2017)

“How Did We Get So Dark? is an incredibly dynamic album and this rhythmic vivacity is exactly what make it sound good.”

5. Ten Tonne Skeleton (Royal Blood, 2014)

“I can’t put into words how good of a song Ten Tonne Skeleton is. It puts all other songs about losing who you love to shame.Awesome lyrics and a haunting / driving guitar and drum lines. Tell me this song doesn’t pump you up!”

4. Lights Out (How Did We Get So Dark?, 2017)

“The album begins with How did we get so dark and Lights out –first single- and a less forcefulness and a more accessible sound is striking, approaching some inspired Muse (those that unfortunately disappeared a long time ago).”

3. Figure It Out (Royal Blood, 2014)

“I think this song beats all other Royal Blood songs… It’s great. The song itself a solid hard rock banger, but it’s those last 45 seconds that cement this as unquestionably one of the decade’s greatest singles.”

2. Little Monster (Royal Blood, 2014)

“This is definitely the best song. It’s a perfect example of royal blood- awesome riff, great vocals, great progression too. The song is also insanely catchy I’ve been singing it all week”

1. Out of the Black (Royal Blood, 2014)

“I’ve always thought this was the best (not only Royal blood song) but one of the best in rock history. It represents the goodness of its musical genre. I hope one day, this band can be way more recognized.”
