5. Honky Tonk Boots

“What makes this album so wonderful and tuneful is Sammy’s vocal delivery. He’s unlike many of the country stars of today. He is a country singer and when he opens his mouth music just falls out without effort. He can take an average song and make it great not just good. Most of the new material here is better than average which really helps.”

4. Covers the Hits

“Most of these songs are pure memories for me from my younger years. Now having Sammy sing them all to me is, well, Awesome! This is not a typical re-make album, where the singer is most definitely singing other people’s songs, no, Sammy makes these songs his own. He not only makes them sound like his songs, he does it without changing the arrangements of the originals.”

3. I Finally Found Someone

“This album was recorded when Lorrie and Sammy were a happy couple. They had an acrimonious divorce a couple of years later so it seems unlikely that they ever collaborate musically again, although (to quote the title of a Ronnie Milsap song) stranger things have happened. The album contains six duets, three Lorrie solos and three Sammy solos.”

2. Haunted Heart

“What some people may be interested in, about this 1993 album, is that one of the background singers is Shania Twain. Of course, an unknown at that time. Anyway, this is truly a good traditional style country album. Sammy has a good country voice, and every song here is a good song. The title song is especially touching.”

1. Don’t Go Near The Water

“This album has some of the best George Jones-style “cry in your beer” traditional country ballads you’ll ever hear, & the vocal similarity to the country legend is uncanny. For variety, he also adds the excellent uptempo tunes, “Cadillac Style” & the title track. It’s impossible to even pick out the highlights. They’re all excellent.”
