Shadowman look to history and hope on ‘New York in Spring’

Shadowman, the new collaborative project from John J Presley, Ben Hillier and Danielle Perry, reveal a more contemplative side to their sound with latest single ‘New York in Spring’.

The fourth preview of the trio’s self-titled debut album, arriving September 4th via Nica Records/Republic of Music, the track moves towards alt-folk while placing Presley’s vivid storytelling firmly at its centre.

Built around ideas of conflict, survival and humanity’s tendency to repeat its mistakes, ‘New York in Spring’ moves through historical images of violence and upheaval without surrendering entirely to darkness.

It provides another striking demonstration of Shadowman’s remarkable range. Previous singles have moved through brooding grooves, expansive post-rock and atmospheric experimentation, while the wider album incorporates everything from orchestral arrangements and brass to drum machines, acoustic songwriting and formidable walls of guitar.
