SHARKEOLOGIST drag Ginuwine’s ‘Pony’ into the shadows on their heavy new rework
Seattle outfit SHARKEOLOGIST have unveiled a dark and riff-loaded reimagining of ‘Pony’, transforming the 90s R&B classic into a brooding alt-metal anthem steeped in grunge atmosphere.
Rebuilt from the ground up, the track swaps sleek groove for crushing guitars, towering harmonies and dense, slow-burning tension. Drawing influence from Alice in Chains and Deftones, the band reshape the song into something heavier, murkier and unexpectedly emotional without losing the seductive pull of the original melody.
SHARKEOLOGIST describe the release as the version of ‘Pony’ they had always imagined hearing, something that felt closer to Seattle’s grunge lineage than polished R&B. The result is equal parts nostalgic and confrontational, balancing massive distorted riffs with melodic vulnerability.
The single serves as a preview of the band’s upcoming EP TAXIDERMY is FOREVER, arriving May 28, and further establishes the group’s identity of basement-born alternative rock rooted in oversized emotion, dark textures and unforgettable hooks.
