Strange Plants turn falling into flying on ‘You Say Falling’
Strange Plants celebrate the beauty of taking the unconventional route on ‘You Say Falling’, a gloriously colourful new single packed with psychedelic textures, bouncing rhythms and irresistible retro-pop hooks.
Built around the idea that one person’s failure can look very different from another person’s freedom, the track challenges familiar expectations surrounding success and stability. Songwriter Matt Brannon describes its central philosophy simply: what somebody else sees as falling might actually feel like flying to you.
Formed by Travis Flint and Matt Brannon, formerly of Halifax alt-country outfit Hot Mondy, Strange Plants introduced their new direction with a self-titled debut album in 2025, recorded at Nashville’s Creative Workshop Studio with producer Robbie Crowell.
‘You Say Falling’ continues an increasingly adventurous run of standalone singles that could eventually form their next album. Wonderfully strange, uplifting and defiantly optimistic, it’s an anthem for anyone happier following their own compass.
