T.N.T Songs Ranked
T.N.T. is the second studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released only in Australia, on 1 December 1975. T.N.T. also led to more AC/DC appearances on Australia’s Countdown music program, following those in support of the Australian High Voltage album. These appearances included a live performance of the song “T.N.T.”, as well as a music video for “It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)”. Filmed on 23 February 1976, the video featured the band’s then-current lineup, along with members of the Rats of Tobruk Pipe Band, on the back of a flat-bed truck traveling on Swanston Street in Melbourne, Australia. On 1 October 2004, Melbourne’s Corporation Lane has renamed ACDC Lane as a tribute to AC/DC, with the decision being based in part on this video. Here are all of T.N.T’s songs ranked.

9. Can I Sit Next to You Girl
“Can I sit next to you girl: again, has elements found in rock’n’roll from the 1950s. In recent years, I’ve discovered that this song is a new version of their song. Their original lead singer (I think his name was Dave Evans) appears with the band in a video for this song. Evans was into glam metal, and that is why he was booted out of the band, apparently. The Young’s didn’t want to go down the ‘glam’ route. The lyrics to this song sound like the sentiments of a teenage boy. They’re not as smutty as, say, their later song “Givin’ the dog a bone”, which was sung by Brian Johnston, who joined the band after Bon died.”
8. The Jack
“When I first heard this song, I was too young to get the poker references and sexual references. This song works well on two levels: firstly, as a song about a relationship framed in terms of the game of poker, and, secondly, as a song where the poker references are thinly disguised topics concerning sexually transmitted diseases (in Australia, “the jack” is a euphemism for an S.T.D). Anyway, this is another, slow, bluesy rocker number. Liked the ending too…has Bon’s trademark wit-reminded me of that scene in the movie “The Blues brothers” where they perform in a country music venue with chicken-wire fencing around the stage!”
7. Rock ‘n’ Roll Singer
“Nostalgia kicked in for me with this song. It too has a terrific guitar riff. Personally, I think that this would have been a good opener to this album, as, thematically, “It’s a long way to the top” is a good sequel to it, lyrical content wise. Good lead guitar work here too. Nostalgia kicked in for me for this song because I was reminded of the awesome lyric in this song where Bon comments on what they teach the kids today in school. Brilliant, rebellious rock’n’roll lyric. The way Bon phrased some words have an echo today in, for example, the song “The way I are” by Timbaland. This is a good narrative song.”

6. School Days
“One the bands few covers of an original song. This one is by Chuck Berry. I don’t really get to hear much Chuck Berry on mainstream radio nowadays (hardly ever, really), but I’m inclined to think that the original is better, but I’m not that a big a fan of the original version in any case. AC/DC give this song the AC/DC sound though.”
5. Rocker
“Rocker is an uptempo song…would you call it ‘rockabilly’ in style? Neo rock’n’roll? The song references Elvis Presley. Pure gold. Just put it on and get into the groove.”
4. High Voltage
“Probably my favourite song on this album and a song I rate as one of the great Australian songs. It has a big opening riff, having the same effect as Beethoven’s 5th symphony (I think that’s the one-you know, the “da da da daaa” one?). The lyrics are really good-it’s the rock’n’roll spirit personified by Bon. Never really noticed it before, but it seems to have, unusually, maracas! Riffs are really this bands strong point.”
3. Live Wire
“AC/DC aren’t really a band where you notice the bass guitar too much. It is noticeable in the intro here. It’s a blues/rock track and is lyrically similar to a great song from another album of their’s called “Dirty deeds done dirt cheap”.”
2. It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)
“This is a song that has in recent years been coming out on top of more than one FM music station’s listener polls of the greatest songs of all time. It might even have got the #1 spot in the following year’s poll. The station’s where it reached #1, against songs from all around the world were Triple M FM and Gold FM. It always seems to feature very high in the recent years these kinds of polls have been running”
1. T.N.T.
“Has another thundering intro, and then the classic chant of what anyone having a drink in a pub would dread to hear-the menacing “Oi! Oi! Oi!”. Joan Jett covered this song, I think. Another great riff by the band. Perhaps it’s their most famous and distinctive. Has yet another good lead break on guitar by Angus. Angus and Malcolm do the “oi!”s, I think.”
