6. Manic Monday: The Best Of The Bangles (2007)

“The 80s were a rough time for me in many ways. I was trying to grasp feminism when separatist feminist radicals like Andrea Dworkin were saying that all sexual contact between men and women was rape. At the time I had no idea how widespread her views were and it was a horrific thing to consider. Just about that time I heard the music of The Bangles. The first song I heard made me cry because it reaffirmed my gut feeling that Ms Dworkin was more than a bit looney.”

5. Greatest Hits (1990)

“Their jangling guitars and vocal harmonies remind me of the Byrds, and the Bangles never fail to get me going. Hard rocking mixed with humor and style, their songs are an eclectic mix that emphasizes their outstanding talent. Walk Like an Egyptian is one of the weirdest and catchiest songs ever recorded.”

4. Sweetheart Of The Sun (2011)

“The Bangles, Sweetheart of the Sun is forty – two minutes and twenty – three seconds and was released on September 27, 2011. The music is done in the style of Adult Alternative Pop, Rock Contemporary Pop and Rock Alternative. None of the songs charted and the album itself reach #148 on the US Billboard Album chart. This was the group fifth studio album and their first as a trio. Michael Steele had left the group by this time. Derrick Anderson plays bass on all tracks except for Through Your Eyes, Matthew Sweet plays on that one.”

3. Everything (1988)

“”Everything” is the final album before the band fell apart in 1990. Following the mega commercial success of Different Light, this album was highly anticipated, though from different expectations. The record company would probably like to follow the trail of Different Light and continue to promote Susanna to be the pop princess. The Bangles, however, is inherently a rock band, they are at their best in folk rock and garage rock. Unlike the previous albums, in “Everything” the members got to write or co-write all the songs.”

2. All Over The Place (1984)

“All Over the Place is a masterpiece. Every song on it is a classic. The jangly guitars and the four-part harmonies are what set the Bangles apart from other artists from the eighties. I don’t know why songs like Live, James, Dover Beach, Tell Me, Restless, and Silent Treatment were not released as singles, because I’m positive that they would have all been big hits. The one and ONLY drawback is that Michael Steele (the bassist) did not sing lead vocals on any of the tracks. Her voice is so beautiful. Even so, I would recommend this album to any fan of good music.”

1. Different Light (1986)

“The album literally has quite a few of their most successful songs. All in all, it’s quite a good album throughout. I don’t dislike any songs here. The sound is really good compared to the original release of this album on CD back in the mid 1980s.”
