The Marra recruit Paul Weller for stirring new single ‘Last Of The Poets’

Derry five-piece The Marra continue their rapid ascent with ‘Last Of The Poets’, a rousing new single featuring Paul Weller on organ.

Premiered by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music, the track was recorded at Weller’s Black Barn Studio in Surrey with longtime engineer Charles Rees producing and mixing. Inspired by The Pogues’ Shane MacGowan, ‘Last Of The Poets’ mourns the disappearing mystique of rock stars and larger-than-life characters in an age where seemingly every moment is documented online.

Drawing inspiration from R.E.M., Thin Lizzy, The Grateful Dead and Tom Petty, The Marra are deliberately looking beyond the sounds dominating Ireland’s current alternative scene.

With huge melodies, a gloriously old-school sense of romanticism and Weller lending his unmistakable touch, ‘Last Of The Poets’ sounds like another significant stride forward for one of Derry’s most exciting emerging bands.
