Montevideo flex their post-punk muscles on brilliant new single ‘Brawn’

Montevideo take aim at gym culture and the modern obsession with body image on ‘Brawn’, a brilliantly playful new single from their forthcoming EP.

Driven by wiry post-punk rhythms and a wonderfully self-deprecating sense of humour, ‘Brawn’ finds the band succumbing to the pressure to get into bodybuilding, with the slight problem that they haven’t got the faintest idea where to begin.

‘Brawn’ also introduces the wider territory explored across their upcoming EP, due October 16. While body worship gets the satirical treatment here, the project will tackle elections and politicians on ‘Vision’ and mansplaining on ‘Clear Thinking’, before taking a considerably darker turn towards sex trafficking on ‘Bunga’.

With shades of Talking Heads and Fontaines D.C. also running through their broader identity, Montevideo have found an exciting formula of sharp commentary, big personality and post-punk that never forgets to have fun.
