The Van Pelt preview new album with ‘Linens Should Be Freshly Pressed’
New York cult favourites The Van Pelt continue their remarkable second chapter with ‘Linens Should Be Freshly Pressed’, the latest single from forthcoming fifth album Remain Obscure.
Arriving ahead of the record’s September 18 release through Ernest Jenning Record Co., the track finds a band whose appetite for exploration remains firmly intact more than three decades after their formation.
Led by singer, guitarist and songwriter Chris Leo, The Van Pelt emerged from New York’s 1990s post-hardcore and indie underground, developing an unmistakable combination of intricate guitars, spoken-word intensity and deeply literary songwriting. Albums Stealing From Our Favorite Thieves and Sultans of Sentiment subsequently became cult touchstones whose influence continued growing long after the band’s original 1997 split.
Now ‘Linens Should Be Freshly Pressed’ offers another enticing glimpse of Remain Obscure, with The Van Pelt once again refusing to simply revisit their past. Instead, their latest era finds one of American indie rock’s great cult bands continuing to evolve on their own terms.
