Third Eye Blind Albums Ranked

Third Eye Blind is an American rock band formed in San Francisco, California, in 1993. The songwriting duo of Stephan Jenkins and Kevin Cadogan signed the band’s first major-label recording contract with Elektra Records in 1996, which was later reported as the largest publishing deal ever for an unsigned artist. The band released their self-titled debut album in 1997, with the band largely consisting of Jenkins (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Cadogan (lead guitar), Arion Salazar (bass guitar), and Brad Hargreaves (drums). Shortly after the release of the band’s second album in 1999, Blue, with the same line-up, Cadogan was released from the band under controversial circumstances. he band found commercial success in the late 1990s, with Third Eye Blind and Blue going six times and single platinum in the United States, respectively. Several songs were a commercial success as well, with “Semi-Charmed Life”, “Jumper”, and “How’s It Going to Be”, all reaching the Top 10 of the US Billboard Hot 100, and “Never Let You Go” reaching the Top 20. Third Eye Blind has sold around 12 million records worldwide. Here are all of Third Eye Blind albums ranked.

5. Dopamine (2009)

“With Dopamine possibly being the band’s final full length record, it looks like Jenkins really searched for some new inspiration and committed to crafting simple yet great songs. No one should expect another Semi-charmed Life or Never Let You Go, and personally I appreciate when a band evolves over time. Listen with an open mind and you’ll hear some of the best songs they’ve written in years. “

4. Ursa Major (2009)

“So here comes “Ursa Major”, Third Eye Blind’s fourth album, and first after six years. Now bassist Arion Salazar is gone too, apparently only playing on one track, “Bonfire”. So the band is now three guys trying to re-capture old Third Eye Blind fans. I know they’ve still toured, building up a new fan base, but the fact is that nothing from “Ursa Major” is getting major exposure, and that says something.”

3. Blue (1999)

“his is an album that grows on you. It takes more than one or two listenings to start to appreciate it. The melodies are incredibly catchy, and the lyrics are very ironic and tongue-in-cheek. It is very clear the guys had a lot of fun recording this (“she’s 10 days late,” anyone?). “Deep Inside of You” is a beautiful song, and the chorus in the end elevates it one step up. In the concert Jenkins sang solo with just a guitar a longer version of “Slow Motion,” which according to him, the record company didn’t want us to hear — but the version that made it to the album still is very touching.”

2. Out of the Vein (2003)

“”Out of the Vein” hits the mark on all points. Jenkins love-life is such public knowledge that you feel almost guiltily voyeuristic in listening to the songs about his former girlfriend, supermodel and actress Charlize Theron. These are some seriously personal songs, people! He deals with this breakup with reflections of his romantic life in everyday happenings and significant events, such as his motorcycle crash. “My Hit and Run” is one of the best songs they have ever written.”

1.Third Eye Blind (1997)

“It starts off heavy with “Losing a Whole Year,” and just keeps flowing. Stephan Jenkins has a great voice and the rest of the band is great too. Whoever the 3eb drummer is, he does one helluva drum solo at the end of “Jumper.” And the album ends with “God of Wine,” my favorite 3eb song. This is definitely 3eb’s best album out of all of them. It’s also a good place to start if you’ve heard “Semi-Charmed Life” AND want more.”
