TLC Albums Ranked

TLC is an American girl group whose original line-up consisted of Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins and Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes. Formed in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1990, the group enjoyed success during the 1990s. After the addition of Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas, they scored nine top-ten hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including four number-one singles: “Creep”, “Waterfalls”, “No Scrubs”, and “Unpretty”. The group also recorded four multi-platinum albums, including CrazySexyCool (1994), which received a diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). TLC also became the first R&B group in history to receive the Million certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for FanMail (1999). 20 years after their debut, TLC was honored with an award called Outstanding Contribution to Music at the 17th MOBO Awards and with the Legend Award at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards Japan. Following Lopes’ death in 2002, instead of replacing her, the remaining members chose to continue as a duo. In 2017, they released their eponymous fifth album TLC. In 2022, the group was inducted into the Black Music & Entertainment Walk of Fame. Here are all of TLC albums ranked. Here are all of TLC albums ranked.

6. TLC 20

“TLC is one of the best girl groups of all time and I’m so glad that they have returned with some new material after being dormant for the past several years. This greatest hits album was compiled from the hit singles that made them famous and the fan favorites that everyone loves.”

5. 3D

“This Album only has some track’s featuring Left eye so is missing some of her vocal’s and Rap’s as in between recording she was tragically killed in a Car accident in Honduras which should never of happened!. Luckily the other 2 member’s of the group finished the Album off and it was released, I am glad to say that by a successful campaign on Kickstarter and by popular demand TLC are recording their new album with Ron Fair, coming out in 2016 and were recently on tour with New Kid’s On The Block.”

4. TLC

“TLC are not a group that I ever thought would get back together again. Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes’s death in 2002 pretty much took care of that for me. Had heard some vague stirrings about them reuniting but wasn’t really thinking in terms of new music from what is now a duo. Turns out T-Boz and Chilli had very different thoughts on the matter. During a package tour they did, the two began a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund for a brand new (and final) studio album for them.”

3. Ooooooohhh…. On The TLC Tip

“I don’t care what anyone says, this is my jam when it comes to the major 90’s R&B groups. More hip-hop than R&B in some ways, the three members are given equal time to shine for the most part, thus there’s a whole lot of Lisa here, unlike the rest of TLC’s albums. And it all works out since the music has that noisy charm of its era, with cues taken from Bomb Squad style productions. Total city vibe.”

2. FanMail

“The album that ultimately cemented TLC as the pretty much unstoppable force that they were in the 90s, Fanmail is another album that didn’t age that well, but that’s also because of how influential it really was. Leaning more on Dallas Austin as their primary producer, this album ditched most of the Soul-influences of CrazySexyCool and instead opted for a sound more futuristic and strictly Hip-Hop for the time. “

1. CrazySexyCool

“A delightful R&B record that hasn’t aged much. As their sound transformed into a more hip-hop-oriented one, they also started taking on more mature subjects and did it well. T-Boz’s low voice blended well with the beats, and every high note Chilli hit pushed the song to its climax, not to mention Lisa’s uniquely goofy and cute rapping style. And the subtle shivers in their voices in the “sex” songs made them even more alluring.”
