Trans Siberian Orchestra Albums Ranked

Trans-Siberian Orchestra is an American rock band founded in 1996 by producer, composer, and lyricist Paul O’Neill, who brought together Jon Oliva and Al Pitrelli (both members of Savatage) and keyboardist and co-producer Robert Kinkel to form the core of the creative team. O’Neill died on April 5, 2017. The band gained popularity when they began touring in 1999 after completing their second album, The Christmas Attic, the year previous. In 2007, the Washington Post referred to them as “an arena-rock juggernaut” and described their music as “Pink Floyd meets Yes and The Who at Radio City Music Hall.” TSO has sold more than 10 million concert tickets and over 10 million albums. The band has released a series of rock operas: Christmas Eve and Other StoriesThe Christmas AtticBeethoven’s Last NightThe Lost Christmas Eve, their two-disc Night Castle and Letters From the Labyrinth. Trans-Siberian Orchestra is also known for their extensive charity work and elaborate concerts, which include a string section, a light show, lasers, “enough pyro to be seen from the International Space Station”,moving trusses, video screens, and effects synchronized to music.
Both Billboard Magazine and Pollstar have ranked them as one of the top ten ticket-selling bands in the first decade of the new millennium. Their path to success was unusual in that TSO is the first major rock band to go straight to theaters and arenas, having never played at a club, never having an opening act and never being an opening act. 5. Letters From The Labrynth (2015)

“TSO is a very unique rock and roll group offering Christian and uplifting lyrics. We love their music and have all of their CDs up to now with this purchase. TSO never disappoints us! We look forward to hearing more from them. If you’ve never been to a TSO concert, you must go! Whether you like Christian music or not, their rock and roll music is uplifting and mesmerizing. These talented artists are superb in their craft, and their concerts are wonderful entertainment so we try to go every time they come near to our town.”

4. Night Castle (2009)

“Hours’ worth of material. It is an ambitious project to be sure, and one that I predict would not sway fans or non-fans either way on their opinions of the band. Everything that people love or loathe about TSO can be found here. This is symphonic / progressive / broadway rock at its most bombastic. For fans of the band’s pre-TSO incarnation, Savatage, at least some of this will sound similar in style and substance. In fact this is probably the most Savatage like album TSO has done so far. “

3. Christmas Eve And Other Stories (1996)

“This album is very different to anything I’ve really heard. The band is made up of most of the members of Savatage which made me assume it would be another one of their usual rock operahs, but it was so much more than that. This is a beautiful album filled with cleverly orchestrated powerful music. It combines traditional classic Christmas music with modern rock giving it a good combination of well balanced tunes filled with sentiment, passion and nostalgic thoughfulness. The album follows a story of an angel that travels across the world to find out the meaning of Christmas with each song representing something different that the angel learns through various stories, but with one underlining story. Half of the album is instrumental, integrating plenty of piano, some heavy guitar melodies and light acoustic numbers recreating classic Christmas carols. “

2. The Lost Christmas Eve (2004)

“The Lost Christmas Eve, for me at least, is the best of the trilogy. This music has to be digested in small bites because there is so much going on. I enjoyed sitting down with the story booklet insert and following along with the CD. If you don’t, then you miss the whole point of the music. For the first time I have tickets to their concert in Greensboro this December and I am so looking forward to seeing and hearing this rock opera performed on stage. The fusion of rock and classical music is very unique. I have given this CD as a gift and the person that I gave it to said that this was the best music that they have experienced in a long time. I would highly recommend not only this CD by TSO but all of the others as well.”

1. Beethoven’s Last Night (2000)

“Outstanding. I have every album and video that TSO has done. This album I believe is their finest work. Not that their other albums aren’t wonderful, but for me this album is absolute perfection. I’ve listened to it in its entirety literally hundreds of times. The classical and rock medleys are beautifully mixed and cleverly crafted. The songs get in your head and live there for days. Absolutely fantastic album.”
