All Now hide a dark family story inside the euphoric rush of ‘Winter Coats’
Alternative rock outfit All Now have unveiled ‘Winter Coats’, a soaring new single that pairs huge, life-affirming instrumentation with a considerably darker story lurking beneath the surface.
Produced by Neil Kennedy, whose credits include Boston Manor and Creeper, the track charges forward on driving guitars and an enormous melodic chorus. There are shades of Jimmy Eat World and Taking Back Sunday in its emotional urgency, alongside the weathered warmth of The Menzingers and the widescreen ambition associated with Sam Fender.
Yet ‘Winter Coats’ is far from the straightforward summer anthem its exhilarating sound might initially suggest. Inspired by real events involving loss, broken trust and secrets passed through generations of a family, the song uses small, personal observations to gradually reveal something far heavier.
The accompanying video extends the song’s curious relationship with memory, filmed inside a mid-century bungalow seemingly frozen in the 1970s. With ‘Winter Coats’, All Now turn complicated history into a wonderfully immediate alt-rock anthem.
