Blind Melon Songs Ranked

Blind Melon is an American rock band formed in 1990 in Los Angeles by five musicians: three from Mississippi, one from Pennsylvania and one from Indiana. The band currently consists of guitarists Rogers Stevens and Christopher Thorn, drummer Glen Graham, vocalist Travis Warren and bassist Nathan Towne. They are best known for their 1993 hit “No Rain”, and enjoyed critical and commercial success in the early 1990s with their neo-psychedelic take on alternative rock. Blind Melon released two albums on Capitol Records – Blind Melon (1992) and Soup (1995) – before their original lead vocalist Shannon Hoon died of a drug overdose on the band’s tour bus in New Orleans on October 21, 1995. After four years of unsuccessfully searching for a replacement for Hoon, Blind Melon officially dissolved in 1999. The remaining members reformed the band in 2006 with Warren and recorded one album with him, For My Friends (2008). Shortly after its release, Warren left Blind Melon but rejoined in 2010, when the band returned to performing occasional gigs. Blind Melon is currently working on their fourth studio album. The group have been nominated for four Grammy Awards. Here are all of Blind Melon songs ranked.

10. Sleepyhouse (Blind Melon, 1992)

“The “sleepyhouse” is what people called the house that the band lived in when they were just starting, they put tin foil on the windows, and would sleep all day. late at night they would get up, stoned, and into the mood to jam. “

9. Tones of Home (Blind Melon, 1992)

“I believe I read somewhere, or heard it in an interview, that this song is about how Blind Melon’s time in Los Angeles was less than enjoyable. Also that they wished to return home. From a general viewpoint, this song is about home sickness and a longing desire to leave, in this scenario, Los Angeles. When he returns home no one understands why he wishes to say there.”

8. Toes Across the Floor (Soup, 1995)

“Awesome stuff. Shannon Hoon wails. The guitars sound like kazoos (or maybe it’s the other way around). The band “ah-ooo-gaa’s.” All of it adds up to what should have been a deserving hit single off Soup.”

7. Deserted (Blind Melon, 1992)

“Quite an awesome song in sound and in lyric. It’s about a guy going through a tough times, whether it be drugs, relationships, or what have you. He wants someone to tell him everything will be okay and he’ll be fine.”

6. Mouthful of Cavities (Soup, 1995)

“Everybody expects something more. Everybody is a fiend waiting four one to fall down. The won’t care for what you really are, but for what you really seem to me. Nobody sees what’s inside you, you’re laughing from the inside out, and nobody will ever see it, and nobody should really care.”

5. Time (Blind Melon, 1992)

“Listen to the song and realize that “so will me” is nonsense, gibberish, or at least bad grammar, yet it fits so well into the song, not only in the lyrics but in the meter. Listen to Blind Melon with this in mind and I think you will be able to enjoy them on a whole new level!”

4. St. Andrew’s Fall (Soup, 1995)

“It’s about a man who commits suicide. The band sees this person jumping from a 20 floor building. They just can wish him the best, and think about, what could had happen to him for commit this action”

3. Soul One (Blind Melon, 1992)

“Brad and Rogers actually wrote this song before they even met Shannon and created blind melon. When they first met Shannon , Shannon fixed up the melodies and then added the bridge part. Nonetheless this song is still really amazing”

2. No Rain (Blind Melon, 1992)

“Just brilliant. Wasn’t convinced at first listen as I like slightly heavier stuff at the time like Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana but over time it has become one of my all time favorites’ along with Change”

1. Change (Blind Melon, 1992)

“I got the lyrics “When life is hard, you have to change” tattooed on my arm, just because I got to a point in my life that I thought everything was done and over with for me, then I heard this song, and it literally changed my life. That may sound cliche, but when I’m having a bad day, all I do is look at my arm, and know that if I think life is hard, then I’m going to change it.”
