CIX Songs Ranked

CIX (Korean: 씨아이엑스, romanized: Ssi-a-i-ekseu, pronounced as C-I-X, short for Complete in X) is a five-member South Korean boy band formed by C9 Entertainment in 2019, consisting of Jinyoung, BX, Seunghun, Hyunsuk and Yonghee. The group debuted on July 23, 2019, with their first EP titled Hello Chapter 1: Hello, Stranger. Bae Jin-young is a former winning contestant of Mnet’s Produce 101 Season 2. As a 10-month old trainee representing C9 Entertainment, he successfully finished at 10th place in the final rankings and earned his spot in the winning group Wanna One, notorious for being monster rookies in South Korea. Following the disbandment of Wanna One, Bae Jinyoung debuted as a soloist in 2019 with his self-composed album Hard to Say Goodbye, and held his first Asia fan-meeting tour “I’M YOUNG” in connection with his debut, featuring eleven shows. 9. Genie In A Bottle (OK Prologue: Be OK, 2021)

“I like the song, even with the knowledge that the harmonies are mostly artificial. There is a groove and there are a lot of switch-ups that don’t ruin the song surprisingly. I love the off kilter percussion too.”

8. Wave (OK Prologue: Be OK, 2021)

“It’s not the strongest cut on the album. Kind of lumpy and slow. The album didn’t grab me immediately like their last ones did (I’m a secret FIX and think all the EPs are excellent), but it’s the kind of thing that worms under your skin and i already have a few cuts i know i’ll live with for a long time.”

7. Tesseract (Tesseract 2021)

“I hate all these Universe releases, no I will not get the app of whatever it is. It just makes me less likely to check out the song. This is nice sounding, but something about how artificial and high pitched the guitar lines sound in the chorus puts me off. A lower pitch would have been perfect.”

6. All For You (Pinky Swear, 2022)

“This I like. Very easy to listen to. Maybe not enough to write paragraphs about, but it’s very effortlessly enjoyable. While I think a better melody would elevate this to greatness, honestly the melody is still great as it is. The chorus is not the type that gets stuck in my head, but it’s one that I want to still passively listen to despite that.”

5. Cinema (CIX 4th EP Album `HELLO’ Chapter Ø. Hello, Strange Dream, 2021)

“This is quite sweet, I appreciate the bass and the layered airy vocals. I miss a stronger melody, too – nothing quite sticks with me apart from a pleasant groove and the ‘Cinema’ repetition. It sounds more like a good bside to me than a title track.”

4. Jungle (Hello Chapter 3: Hello, Strange Time, 2020)

“Some songs seem designed to just play in the background. I really really like this one, but again, it was just playing in the background all the time. I think it’s the kind of song I might have gotten bored of, had I been paying attention. So what you said about it being “incredibly atmospheric” is spot on, I guess.”

3. Numb (Hello Chapter 2: Hello, Strange Place, 2019)

“CIX criticizing the entire education system and the toxic culture among students while bringing awareness about mental illness and suicide still impresses me!! I come back to this all the time as well as the story films, I can’t wait for chapter three of this trilogy”

2. My New World (Hello Chapter 1: Hello, Stranger, 2019)

“The music video is great. It has a mystical atmosphere and creates a tension between science fiction and fantasy. The sound and picture quality is brilliant, the song gripping, voices and dance top-class. The equipment is sensational. The boys show their great musical indulgence.”

1. Movie Star (Hello Chapter 1: Hello, Stranger, 2019)

“Yonghee’s part is so catchy, Baejin’s voice suits so well this song, Gon’s rap slaps, Hun’s dance is insane, and Hyunsuks looks and sounds so beautiful in here. CIX is amazing for choosing Movie Star as their debut song. When I first be a fan of CIX, Movie Star is the reason why I keep listening to their songs on playlist.”
