Conscious Pilot take a darkly playful turn on new single ‘Face Down’
Conscious Pilot continue to build anticipation for their debut album with ‘Face Down’, a sharp pivot from the grit of earlier releases into something more immediate, melodic and unexpectedly buoyant.
Arriving ahead of Human Poultry (out May 8 via DevilDuck Records), the track trades blunt force for momentum; all driving guitars and restless energy, masking its heavier themes beneath an almost uplifting surface.
At its core, ‘Face Down’ wrestles with mortality, but sidesteps gloom in favour of dry humour and observational wit. Written during frontman Joe Laycock’s time in Glasgow, it leans into that familiar instinct to joke through discomfort, turning existential dread into something oddly reassuring.
If this is the final preview, Human Poultry is shaping up to be anything but predictable.
