She attained international success with her debut album No Angel (1999). Hit singles from the album include “Here with Me” and “Thank You”. It sold over 21 million copies worldwide, and won her several awards, including two Brit Awards: Best British Female and Best British Album, and the MTV Europe Music Award for Best New Act. The first verse of “Thank You” is sampled in “Stan”, a collaboration with American rapper Eminem. Her next album, Life for Rent (2003), continued her success with the hit singles “White Flag” and “Life for Rent”. In 2004, Dido performed with other British and Irish artists in the Band Aid 20 version of the charity single “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”. Dido made a comeback in 2013, releasing her fourth studio album Girl Who Got Away, which reached the top 5 in the UK. Having taken time out of the music industry to raise her son, she reappeared on stage at the 2013 Reading and Leeds festival where she reunited with Eminem. Dido released her fifth studio album, Still on My Mind, on 8 March 2019 and embarked on her first tour in 15 years in support of the new album. 10. Take My Hand (No Angel, 1999)

“I love this song! Considering it was tacked on as a bonus track – it must be one of the best ‘bonus’ tracks of all time! Excellent arrangements in both bassline and keyboards frames Dido’s silky smooth lyrics to perfection, like a smooth red wine this track is tastefully addictive – and became my favorite and most played Dido song”

9. Stan (The Marshall Mathers LP, 2000)

“This is the best song I’ve ever heard… I mean this song is awesome… The best combination of two music artists is there in this song (Eminem & dido) I love Eminem and I love dido, they sing so well together! And I agree that they should have sung more songs together!”

8. Sand in My Shoes (Life for Rent, 2003)

“The music somehow captures that exact feeling of melancholia you feel on your first day back home from a great extended trip away somewhere, and it’s to the song’s credit that the lyrics pack that in alongside the romance aspect instead of making the song exclusively about missing the guy.”

7. See You When You’re 40 (Life for Rent, 2003)

“This song is Great! I think it means when a guy has said a lot of things to you which you want to hear, you know deep down there’s feeling there and you like what you see, but he has this other side to him where he doesn’t let you in or show you his true emotions, I am in a situation like this at the moment, I love the line ” All energy no meaning, with a lot of words’ Great track, as always.”

6. No Freedom (Girl Who Got Away, 2013)

“First time I heard it, I was immediately transported to the late 90’s & early 00’s and I fell in love with Dido all over again. Confirmed that Dido was back for real! It perfectly sums up the life of a celebrity that she has been living & how it has given her ‘No Freedom’.”

5. Hunter (No Angel, 1999)

“I guess she’s just talking about not wanting to be a housewife and I doubt any actual hunting is going on or anything, but you know what? Hearing this big arrangement, with all its trip-hop synths, guitar, organ and the rest as it develops, I can almost see landscapes one would actually go hunting in. It kind of does feel epic and a bit mysterious, like a huge forest. I doubt that was the exact intention, but for that reason I really feel this one. Her voice can only take that effect so far (it’s not weak, but it’s certainly not the large type of voice that can conjure up ‘epic’ feelings on its own), it really is the triumph of the arrangement alone. In its own way it does sound pretty perfect.”

4. Here with Me (No Angel, 1999)

“There’s some really unexpected and very welcome material in the additional mixes here. The Lukas Burton mix keeps the chorus of the original largely intact but goes for sparse acoustic guitars in the verses, a move that pays an unusual amount of respect to the original vocal track (it’s left completely intact and unchanged) and leads to a mix that I think I enjoy more than original. “

3. Thank You (Sliding Doors, 1998)

“Mundane and romantic, this song is just so warm and fuzzy to me. It reminds me of friends, or maybe crushes I’ve had. so just very relatable, and one of my favorite singles from this era.”

2. Life for Rent (Life for Rent, 2003)

“I think that she, as an artist, fills a very important gap in today’s music market – the adult pop market. I think that she was one of the people that fronted the revival of good adult pop music. I think that her writing style is very in tune with the adult pop market…and it is very good music.”

1. White Flag (Life for Rent, 2003)

“Brilliant song from a wonderful singer. I can’t stop listening to her angelic voice. I expect more songs of this quality from Dido. Very nice singer. This song is absolutely wonderful. I always feel so uplifted and feel like I can go another day without breaking!”
