Enema of the State Songs Ranked

Enema of the State is the third studio album by American rock band Blink-182, released on June 1, 1999, by MCA Records. After a long series of performances at various clubs and festivals and several indie recordings throughout the 1990s, Blink-182 first achieved popularity on the Warped Tour and in Australia following the release of their second album Dude Ranch (1997) and its rock radio hit “Dammit.” To record their third album, Blink-182 turned to veteran punk rock producer Jerry Finn, who previously worked on Green Day’s breakthrough album Dookie (1994). Enema was the band’s first album to feature second drummer Travis Barker, who replaced original drummer Scott Raynor. Enema of the State was an enormous commercial success, although the band was criticized as synthesized, manufactured pop only remotely resembling punk, and pigeonholed as a joke act due to the puerile slant of its singles and associating music videos. Here are all of Enema of the State songs ranked.

12. Going Away to College

“A more serious, true-to-life song about missing a loved one as they go off to college, but more great instrumentation here.  Defiently another of my favorites. I love the chorus and the lyrics. “I haven’t been this scared in a long time, and i’m so unprepared so heres my valentine, a boquet of clumsy words, a simple melody. This world’s an ugly place, but you’re so beautiful to me.”

11. Mutt

“Another fast song, just like the rest of the album. Its about a friend of thiers who always going out to get laid. Very good song about a desparate man trying to get some.”

10. Wendy Clear

“This song is about wishing things werent so bad. Lyrics explains all. This is my favorite song. Great song with cool guitars and riffs and lyrics and drumms and… everything!”

9. Anthem

“More of Travis’s great drumming here in this song about rebellion and the spirit of being a misfit in the modern world. The last track is basically like all the song on the album: Fast paced and upbeat. One of my favorite songs. I really like the lyrics for this song alot. And it’s true, “Mom and dad posses the key (to) instant slavery”

7. Aliens Exist

” Everybody knows Tom is a huge alien geek, and this song is sort of a ‘shot’ to the Majestic-12 that aliens exist. One of my favorites. Another song that has the anthemic, energetic sounds of the Warped Tour, this one features Tom on vocals singing about aliens. Another energetic and funny song!

6. The Party Song

“A very fast-paced, drum-driven song with great, highly amusing lyrics and more power chords that blast their way from Tom’s guitar. A song you can listen to over and over. It’s so fast that its too fast for Mark to sing live, so that’s why they never play it. It’s about some girls trying too hard.”

5. Dumpweed

“A fast and frantic anthem about crazy girls with an awesome, pull-off guitar riff and breakneck drumming, where the verse sections and in-between sections alternate from moderately paced to quite fast-paced.”

3. Dysentery Gary

“I didn’t really like this song at first, but i totally love it now. Another upbeat fast song. Probably the most melodic song on the entire album, with great guitar lines, funny but jealousy-driven lyrics and awesome melody with a good pace, too.”

2. Adam’s Song

“Third single and possibly one of my favorite all time Blink-182 song. Its the only ‘slow’ song on the album. Its about being tour and missing home. It was one of the first songs i’ve ever learnt on guitar.”

1. What’s My Age Again?

“The first single off their record. Everybody knows it. Im not saying nothing. A punk classic with some melodic guitar lines and very funny lyrics. A mid-paced song, but with a great, clean-guitar section in the middle.”
