Foreigner Debut Album Songs Ranked

Foreigner is the self-titled debut studio album by British-American rock band Foreigner, released in 1977. It spun off three hit singles, “Feels Like the First Time”, “Cold as Ice” and “Long, Long Way from Home”. It also features album tracks such as “Headknocker” and “Starrider”, the latter of which features a rare lead vocal from lead guitarist and co-founder Mick Jones. The first attempt at mixing the album was done at Sarm Studios, London, but as they were dissatisfied with the result, the album was re-mixed at Atlantic Recording Studios by Mick Jones, Ian McDonald and Jimmy Douglass. Here are all of Foreigner Debut Album songs ranked.

10. Fool for You Anyway

“Fool For You Anyway” is a great soulful ballad, it reminds me of the R & B artists that used to record with the Stax & Volt labels. “Fool For You Anyway” sounds like they imitated some other band, somebody like maybe Poco or some pop band that I never listened to. It’s just a bit light and poppish”

9. Woman Oh Woman

“This is just a spectacular debut, and about equal with the debut albums by the Eagles, Boston, Kansas, Alan Parsons Project, and a few that I’m forgetting at the present moment.”

8. The Damage Is Done

“The Damage Is Done” is a great ballad, Jones does some of his best lead playing on this selection. This is one of my favorite songs from them.

7. I Need You

“The debut Foreigner CD captures the band as they began their ascent into rock stardom and a well deserved success. “Foreigner” is exciting for several reasons but mostly because the CD is so well done and played so beautifully by Lou Gramm, Mick Jones, Ian McDonald, Al Greenwood and company. It’s excitment also springs from this CD showing the band at that unique moment when the musical product comes together in perfection.”

6. Headknocker

“Headknocker”. Just a great, energetic rock song with a verse melody that’s quite decent. “Headknocker” has some humorous lyrics that allowed Graham to show off his stage presence.”

5. Starrider

“Starrider” is one of their very best album tracks, once again, it had all the trademarks of Foreigner, it has a very good keyboard solo. “Starrider” was THE song for me while I grew up and you can not count the number of times I played this album.”

4. Long, Long Way from Home

“I also really enjoy “Long, Long Way From Home” despite how often it’s been played on classic rock radio over the years. “Long, Long Way From Home” features more keyboards & has horns, courtesy of McDonald.”

3. At War With the World

“At War With the World” is another good track. I can’t remember how it goes at the moment having only listened to it twice, however. I just remember enjoying it “At War With the World” has its moments but it shows the one major weakness that Foreigner had, neither Jones or Graham were strong as lyricists.”

2. Cold As Ice

“Cold as Ice” is a minor improvement, and I appreciate the demanding style in which the singer gets his message across. It’s a memorable singing approach, so it’s understandable how it became a big hit.”

1. Feels Like the First Time

“Foreigner was one of my favorite classic rock bands growing up and I think that there is no weak song on this album, every song ranges from good to excellent and this band has good songwriters and good musicians, the opener Feels Like the First Time was Foreigner’s first hit single hitting #4 on the Billboard charts and it’s now a classic rock favorite”
