Inside Information Songs Ranked

Inside Information is the sixth studio album by the British-American rock band Foreigner, released on December 8, 1987. The album debuted at 15, on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart and was certified Platinum in the U.S. for sales exceeding one million copies. Although a huge standard by any country’s charting method, the band’s sales were certainly plummeting since the release of 4 in 1981. It was the last album to feature the ’80s core lineup of Gramm, Jones, Wills, and Elliott. Further singles from the album included “Heart Turns to Stone”, which had peaked at #7 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart in an earlier non-commercial release only to rock radio but only managed #56 on the Hot 100 several months later in 1988, and the harder “Can’t-Wait”, which matched the #18 Mainstream Rock Tracks charting of “I Don’t Want to Live Without You” but failed to crack the Hot 100, as it was a non-commercial release except in Canada. The following year saw a successful solo album and singles from Lou Gramm and found Mick Jones releasing an album and producing for artists including Billy Joel. Here are all of the Inside Information songs ranked.

10. A Night to Remember

“This is one of the most underrated foreigner albums, people don’t like they changed their sound. If a band does not change it becomes irrelevant.”

9. Counting Every Minute

“This album marked the beginning of a rather quick decline for the once mighty Foreigner, and it wasn’t for lack of great material. By 1988 the hair bands had come out in full force, and Foreigner’s decidedly less cheesy take on pop-oriented hard rock (songs that had lyrics full of emotion and conviction instead of just being about partying and women) suddenly seemed a bit passe, particularly since these guys weren’t getting any younger and certainly could never be accused of being pretty boys.”

8. Out of the Blue

“But by far the best song on this disc is “Out Of The Blue”, a truly uplifting and powerful (if somewhat predictable) ballad that should have been released as a single instead of the more ordinary “I Don’t Want To Live Without You”.

7. I Don’t Want to Live Without You

“I Don’t Want To Live Without You,” the other hit single from the album, is a very beautiful song, I love anything that Foreigner puts out, and have every CD and DVD of theirs, in my collection. Another triumph here!”

6. Face to Face

“Face To Face” is another searing anthem that is hit-worthy with its sound. To me there is no such thing as “a bad Foreigner album.” That being said, this one is a lot stronger and more rocking than many may realize.”

5. Say You Will

“Of higher impact is the other big hit on the album–“Say You Will”. This song is as good an anthem as Foreigner has ever done with its catchy chorus and yearning lyrics.”

4. The Beat of My Heart

“This may not be Foreigner in their 70s prime, but if you are interested in what they did in the 80s, Inside Information is probably the best bet to go with.”

3. Can’t Wait

“My favorite overall Foreigner album. Not only a great Foreigner album with great songs, but they sounded very much in the style of Lou’s two great solo albums around the same time that I also absolutely loved.”

2. Heart Turns to Stone

“”Heart Turns To Stone” is a great, heartfelt rocker to lead off the album. This song was the single after the ballad “I Don’t Want To Live Without You”, but it fell a bit short of the top 10.”

1. Inside Information

“Still, Inside Information is definitely one of the better albums to come out that year. As another reviewer put, this album showed songs full of emotion and conviction in a time when other bands were singing about partying & girls.”
