10. Parabol

“The softest track on the album. The only thing that can really compare to it is the intro to the Deftones song “Pink Maggot.”  At first i thought this was going to be pointless. turns out it is of the most beautiful songs on the album. almost a tearjerker.”

9. Triad

“Triad is an extremely unusual, and therefore very appropriate closing section. It’s an instrumental section, with an odd, half industrial, half tribal beat to it, an excellent use of some very strange sound effects and some of Jones best near avant-garde guitar squealing combined with some pounding and stunningly thick sounding rhythm work.”

8. Disposition

“One of Tool’s best, it encompasses the mentality of Maynard during a much more confusing time of his life. “Disposition” is a haunting little melody that leads perfectly into “Reflection”.

7. The Patient

“This song is simply amazing. the part where the lyrics go “i’m still right here, giving blood, keeping faith, I’m still right here”- those lyrics give me chills every time I hear them. this is one tool song that I always think of first when I want to listen to the band’s music”

6. Reflection

“I love this song. Tool’s best. It made me cry when I listened to it all the way through. People don’t have the patience nowadays. This song has so much power and emotions. The psychological aspects of this song could fill a book. It deserves higher ranking and is INTENSELY underrated. PLEASE, PLEASE listen to it. I’m begging you. Please.”

5. Ticks & Leeches

“Tick&Leeches is very cool. It’s a return to the more hostile, enraged Tool of yore. This is one of the heavier songs they’ve done. Carey’s drums simply astound, and Maynard gives one of his most vitriolic vocal performances to date. The quiet bridge in the middle is even pretty cool, though I feel it should be a little shorter.”

4. The Grudge

“The Grudge”, the first King Crimson-like incantation on the album, is his most propulsive moment. At one point in this song, easily the most rhythmically complex thing Tool has ever attempted, he does three double-time tempo changes, one after the other, with double bass while pounding the snare.”

3. Parabola

“Parabola” is another up-tempo song, and one of the few on the album that are not epic both in terms of diverse musical directions as well as length. The album also contains several short “bridge” tracks, which I find less than enjoyable, but which work better on this album than on Aenima”

2. Schism

“There is some real talent at work here too. I think the bass on “Schism” speaks for itself, but excellent vocals, guitar, drums, and bass are found all throughout. The high point is the whole last half of the album (I am absolutely NOT saying anything bad about the first half).”

1. Lateralus

“Lateralus has to be the most unique and best song ever written and performed in history of music. I can hear this song all day and it would never get old, I saw tool in concert last year and lateralus live was beyond anything I could ever explain. God what a song and what a band”
