Misery Prize sound the alarm on electro-punk earworm ‘Thought Police’

Yorkshire electropunk trio Misery Prize come armed with noise, paranoia and one dangerously catchy chant on new single ‘Thought Police’.

The three-minute track takes aim at surveillance, social media and the strange experience of having algorithms increasingly dictate what enters our heads. An opening ‘nee-naw’ hook immediately sounds the alarm before the band charge into a gloriously abrasive combination of electronic beats, punk attitude and deadpan agitation.

Describing themselves as something like a middle-aged Beastie Boys from York rather than New York, the trio occupy similarly confrontational territory to Sleaford Mods and Benefits, wrapping social observation in enough humour and rhythmic chaos to keep things exhilarating.

Previous support has included BBC Introducing, Amazing Radio, Zamek Nadaje and Nowy Świat. With ‘Thought Police’, Misery Prize have produced a wonderfully obnoxious electropunk warning siren, and that chorus isn’t leaving your head anytime soon.
